The options on Ocado are
Mr Organic tomato ketchup, i like this one.
Italian Tomatoes (80%) (600g per 100g of ketchup), Sugar, Wine Vinegar, Sea Salt*, Onion, Spices.
Salt per 100g = 2g.
Daylesford Organic tomato ketchup, i didn't like this one and extremely expensive.
Organically Grown and Produced Ingredients: Tomatoes (70%), Apples, Onions, Sugar, Spiced Vinegar (Cider Vinegar, Allspice, Cloves), Tomato Puree (6%), Sea Salt*, Chilli, Black Pepper.
Whole Earth organic ketchup, never tried and just read the ingredients, i won't be ordering.
Water, Organic wheat syrup, Organic tomato puree (18%), Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Organic Brown rice flour, Sea salt, Thickener: Pectin, Organic spices, Organic onion powder, Organic tamari soy sauce (water, organic Soya beans, sea salt)
Not organic but i like Tiptree tomato sauce too.
Tomatoes (75%), Sugar, Wine Vinegar, Salt, Lemon Juice, Spices0 -

The ingredients should tell you and it is advisable to read the list because companies will make claims that there are no artificial colourings, flavourings or preservatives in a product - but a read of the ingredients will then show glucose-fructose syrup rather than sugar for example. Heinz does this with their non-organic spaghetti in tomato sauce
The simpler the product is the healthier it should be. When there's a long list of ingredients with long names that need looking up it's a sure sign it's processed.
Organic bacon and ham usually do contain permitted nitrates just like non-organic, which aren't healthy if eaten a lot. Organic bacon and ham which don't contain them (hard to find) still taste great but look pretty grey.
Prosciutto di Parma aka Parma ham, has no nitrates if made the traditional way but isn't grey. All you need do is look for the gold crown on the packaging. Then, the only ingredients will be pork legs and salt.
Supermarkets do stock Parma ham with the gold crown next to stuff without it - and the ham with the nitrates may even be more expensive !
Gold crowned prosciutto doesn't need to be expensive, you can get it for 1.99 a pack in Lidl.
It's a lot thinner than traditional English ham but you can use it over the breast of a turkey when roasting for example or chopped up in pasta, or in sandwiches ie in many ways that you'd use ham or bacon.
Organic food often is much more expensive. Searching out additive free food can be a feasible cheaper alternative. It doesn't mean that you're ingesting fewer pesticides or no GM fed animals/poultry but it is at least getting rid of nasties like glucose-fructose syrup.
sophlowe45 - the weird thing is, that Tiptree makes quite few organic jams, you'd think they'd do that with the ketchup too0 -

Keep in mind that certain products, especially gardening, use the word 'organic' when all they mean is doesn't contain 'inorganic' products.
You often see chicken pellet fertilizer as organic - but it is not certified as organically produced. Of course most 'manures' are organic - chickens don't tend to poo inorganic substances!
I think there are only one or two producers of certified organic chicken poo pellets - via Tamar or the Organic Gardening catalogue = Rooster or Greenvale.0 -
Thanks smallblueplanet that's really useful. I will go look for certification labels later on stuff I've bought already and report back.0

I just use tomato puree in place of ketchup, sometimes add stuff to it for a different flavour. My ex used to fry it in olive oil, I haven't done it for years for some reason. :drool:Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
