Good news the Tesco organic houmous tastes delish - not too smooth - the way I like it. :)

The bad news - my remaining pack of tesco organic toms went off :( - I only bought them on Sunday....and really they weren't as tasty as Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Jubilee large vine ripened toms.

Anyways, bought a bag of So Organic carrots from Sainsbury's for nibbling cost £1 for 750g (normal were £1 for 1kg) and some New Covent Garden soup which is on offer 2 for £2.35....

Had to take my beloved labrador to the vet yesterday to be put down. I worked out he cost us about £4 a week to keep - best money I've ever spent. It might sound strange but I want to use the money that we will save to buy something special.. yeah on £4 pw !

This morning it came to me.. President organic butter 2.99 per packet. I'd rather have my dawg x a million but as he's gone and as we do a DD to Battersea Dog's Home anyway, President organic butter.

Edwardia, so sorry for your loss. We have two labs here, both basking in the spring sunshine. I'm sure your boy had a lovely life with you.

Not in a supermarket but Home Bargains had these in the food aisle and I managed to get a few packets.

    19p each.

rufydoofyM great review :T and well done on the YS lamb, I've never found so much as a reduced pack of organic mince, just veg :(

I've had the Riverford milk and while UNhomogenised it's not a patch on Abel & Cole milk. I like the Calon Wen unhomogenised but though it's supposedly sold in Sainsbury's etc I've only been able to get it from Ocado.

I may think about taking on another dog in the future, but not right now. To add to my woes, we have discovered that while I was in Sainsbos yesterday my handbag was pickpocketed on my shoulder and my BlackBery Curve and OH's driving licence are gone. I think it happened while I was in the queue clutching purse-wallet and they were loose in bag on my shoulder.

In order to get new photocard driving licence he will have to fork out for a new passport first so will cost over £100 in all. EE (T-Mobile) were brilliant as usual, sending new SIM free of charge by courier tomorrow for me to put in my spare BlackBerry Curve. Luckily I had uploaded all my photos to laptop Friday. Stolen phone now blacklisted so will be dead as a dodo.

Anyway.. please be vigilant in supermarkets !

Aargh, so annoyed for you. It's not just the loss, it's all the extra effort you have to go through to replace or cancel things, not to mention the cost. Someone drove into my daughter's car a few weeks ago when it was parked just a few metres from our house. They must have known what damage they caused in a quiet cul-de-sac - smashed wing and headlight - but didn't leave a note. Left us with a big bill and all the inconvenience of getting it repaired. She now parks on the drive and OH leaves his trusty, ancient Land Rover on the road. It's a bit harder to dent that!

OH is always checking that I have my bag done up when we go shopping. I have a fairly capacious bag :rotfl: which I carry on one shoulder and always think it's safe enough there and that I'd notice any interference. I've usually got something in that bag to cover all eventualities and have to have a good rummage to find my purse so I wouldn't give anyone else much hope of finding anything worth having in there, but I will be much more careful now.

I did get pickpockets once years and years ago on the Paris Metro when I was coming back from a Uni trip, thankfully they didn't get my passport and tickets. I guess it's par for the course there but I was a naive, small town girl (well, village girl actually) and never thought something like that could happen.

Hope better times are around the corner for you.

    Hello all :D
I am just wondering if any of you know where sells organic pitta bread? I have no Waitrose near me, and google tells me I can buy from there. I looked in Sainsburys today and couldn't find any, nor have I ever seen any in the usual Tesco, Asda etc. I am thinking I might not have any luck with the usual supermarkets.

    Many thanks in advance

Pitta bread is quite straightforward to make too. There's a Channel 4 recipe from the Fabulous Baker Brothers here
http://www.channel4.com/4food/recipes/tv-show-recipes/the-fabulous-baker-brothers-recipes/pitta-bread-recipe and I'm sure you'll find more if you do a search.

Thanks alfsmum xx Am really missing my boy, had him as long as we had been in this house. Seems so empty :( Chuckled at your capacious handbag. I've got quite a few but don't use them much.

Triker thanks for sharing, not got a Home Bargains near me but hopefully other people have as that's a baagain !:T

BACKFRMTHEEDGE have you tried making your own houmous ? It's really simple in a food processor as long as you can get hold of tahina.

    I can't afford it either. ;)

I'm presently working on meat being free range and fish wild as much as possible, some from the butcher, also Aldi free range whole chicken (£3.40 a kilo). Amount of bone waste in different cuts of meat if you don't use it all up in stock
    http://www.dogster.com/forums/Raw_Food_Diet/thread/697247/1

Looking at Ocado free range pork mince (£6.60 a kilo) because it's lean and a couple of quid a kilo cheaper than Tesco regular lean pork mince. It's quite easy to find 400g cans of wild canned oily fish for cheap - pilchards, mackerel (BTM brand Home Bargains), salmon. Fresh wild sardines or mackerel can be well priced too.
    http://www.glenryck.co.uk/pages/pilchards.htm

I read here that Ocado vegetable boxes are the most packed. Ocado/ Waitrose also have a few basic frozen organic vegetables - spinach £2.80 a kilo, sweetcorn £3 a kilo, broccoli £4 a kilo. Asda organic whole red cabbage £1.70 a kilo and most of us don't eat enough from the purple family of fruit and veggies. Although you could aim just to go organic for the produce that is most likely to be contaminated, and actually cabbage is one of the better ones.

    Sounds like we very similar.

with poultry I always try go free range or rspca freedom label and always buy free range eggs.

Have no told hubby british ork only as have higher welfare standards.

Got lilds free range chicken other day was nice.
Brought aldis one today hoping its as good.

got british premuim bacon in aldis british.

today brought organic fair trade bananas more expensive than lidls at £1.39 a pack but 50%off so 57p:).

Any organics in uk aldis at all other than bananas?

    noticed british labels over everything.

We kind of off beef after horse so only brought 1 chicken and some fish.

I brought frozen wild salmon fillets £3.99 a pack.

problem here is with 3kids get through so much fruit and 8pints milk a day have tried organic and tastes nicer.

I tried the duchy waitrose free range organic pork mince few weeks back from avacado was nice. Think paid £2.39.

Will definatly be doing online orders from waitrose and ocado from now on. how do i select veg boxes on ocado?

we have large sainsburys and local near enough to walk to but hate sainsburys as too many self serve tills, queues and pricey.

dont ever go to asda and freind dissapointed in their fruit and veg.

Quick? saw whole earth organic peanut butter in co-op half price £1.75 is it any good?

Many thanks edwardia yo always really informative and helpful .

what meat you reccomend from able and cole?
can i get cashback on riverford/able?

    hiya gailey

Cashback. oh you mean Quidco etc, I don't use them, maybe whichever website you use would tell you ?

I called Aldi and nope, no plans for organic range in UK. I emailed Lidl as they have added cheese and yogurt, waiting for reply.

Suggest you have a look for frozen wild salmon fillets in supermarkets gailey as usually cheaper than fresh. Iceland does frozen wild fish as well. It is often poss to pick them up cheap and freeze yourself eg Sainsbury's, Co-op.

Whole Earth is a good brand, that's a great price and it shoudn't have any added sugar but may have added vegetable oil to bulk it out, can't remember. It's not horrible stuff. We love the Suma peanut butter, no added sugar, salt or oil.

If you put organic veg box in the Ocado product search it will come up. If you then click on the writing rather tha pic you get the full info and there should be something which tells you what's in the box that week.

I've had the Lidl free rabge whole chicken before and they do taste good, sell out very quickly in my local Lidl.

I use my local ASDA for organic olive oil and tinned tomatoes because Ocado much more expensive. My local store big and spacious but not usually heaving with people.

Agree about the queues in Sainsbury's gets really ridiculous at weekends even with a basket :(

I haven't bought mince for ages, even before Chevalgate, buy more fish, game and steaks/chops/chicken/scrag. I low carb so don't eat rice, spuds or pasta, tend not to do cottage pie, spag bog, curry.

BIG thank you to everyone reading, posting .. this is the 1000th post, 50th page and over 26,000 views since October. Lurkers don't be shy please come post !
