teacher said to me before she was due to start was ' do you want us to ban nuts from school ? ', to which I answered 'oh, yes that would be such a relief'.

Im sorry but i think that is really selfish!

    A selfish one.

I dont think its fair on the other kids to be deprived because of you.

Ok, firstly kids are not being deprived of nuts, just nuts at school. Secondly it is not because of me, but because of my daughter.

My daughter is allergic to nuts. This means that if she touches or eats them she could go into anaphylactic shock which means her throat will close up and she won't be able to breathe and she might die.

Hmmm... being deprived of a peanut butter sandwich or being deprived of my child's life. Gosh it's a tough one isn't it ?

you think she is selfish for wanting a potentially fatal substance kept away from her child?? seriously??!!
most schools/nurserys are nut free zones now anyway,
how are the other kids being deprived?
surely having to think of something other than peanut butter to put in your childs sandwiches isnt too much of a struggle??
and as for chocolate.... that is discouraged in school anyway, there is plenty of time outside school for sweets.

Oh dont be so ridiculous! I do not care for your sarcasm.

They are being deprived at school, when they should have the choice to eat them if they should want.

You said you wanted them banned so thats you depriving them, fo ryour daughter, but you made it happen.

I no what being allergic to nuts is dont treat me like an idiot, my brother is also allergic to nuts, he lives happily in a house where people eat them and he doesnt, it really is quite simple!

Dont twist my word si never said "she is selfish for wanting a potentially fatal substance kept away from her child??"

I said she is selfish for depriving the other kids from having a healthy snack or just one they might want.

The kids are being deprived because theyre choice has been taken away when it shouldnt have.

"surely having to think of something other than peanut butter to put in your childs sandwiches isnt too much of a struggle??" !!!!!! is that about, dont talk down to me.

Who mentioned chocolate? nuts are healthy not sweets!

There are many different levels of this allergy though, your brother is lucky that his doesnt sound that severe,
thriftlady has said that her daughter only needs to touch them (or for instance a child who just ate a PB sandwich and hasnt washed thier hands yet) and she could go into shock.

    its not always that simple.
imagine this was your child, dont pretend that you wouldnt prefer the threat be removed completely.
  • i have heard of people whose allergy is so severe that they can have a reaction if somebody opens a nut product in the same room as them. i don't know how common it is to have such a severe reaction though.

i think it's perfectly reasonable to have at least some schools that are nut free - if my child had an allergy so serious i would be terrified!

  • I dont want to start an arguement i just dont liek the fact that the other kids are being deprived all because one mum says so. I will leave it at that.
