    HI there,
When i had my little girl 7yrs ago i was rushed to hossy so my ex (was engaged then) shoved a load of stuff in a carrier bag...he forgot id already packed one ready grrr lol
If i did it again (hoping one day will get a chance) then my list would be..

    A couple of cheapy nighties
Some old pj or joggin bottoms (feel more secure below if your out of bed)
    Lots of big pants
I prefer always ultra super plus with wings for after!!!
    Nipple pads fer leaky boobs
Socks cause ya feet do get cold even though its always boilin on them wards
A baggy t'shirt for daytime if you wanna change out of ya nightie
Some mags or a book to pass the time
And like others have said take some snacks crisps/biscuits/sarnies/chocs
a bottle of juice (dilutable kind) and some chewing gum or mints

Also can recommend taking a large pair of nut crackers to use on your partner when the contractions kick in :D
well they would ave made me feel better if i'd known he'd be sleeping while i was doing all the work.
I wish you loads of luck, hope its not to long and give big cyber hugs to you and the baby :)

My friend took a game called 'Pass the Pigs'...went down a storm with everyone in the labour suite, lol!!

Pass the Pigs is one of the simplest games I have ever played. Even very young children can play, providing you watch them closely as they are likely to try and put the pigs in their mouth! "
  • Can anyone advise on the bare minimum i will need to buy to take to the hospital for the birth of the bump :)

I have just recently went down to 1/2 pay a few months earlier than budgeted for (due to pregnancy related illness) so money is a big concern for me :(

I will also need to purchase the bag itself and wondered if anyone could advise on the appropriate size.

I am hoping to get a list together over the next few days so i can visit poundshop/boots etc weekly until the birth (approx 11 weeks) to start putting the stuff together.

I have most of the baby stuff (with the exception of muslin squares) so it is mostly trying to determine what i will need for labour and afterwards.

    Thanks in advance.

All you need are a couple of outfits for the baby, nappies, wipes and nappy sacks, a car seat and blankets.

For you, you'll need spare underwear, a change of clothes, washing stuff, toothbrush and something to give birth in. And lots of maternity pads.

    Anything else is garnish really.

As for the bag.....if you can't afford it then any overnight bag will do.

A large holdall, sports bag or rucksack will do nicely.
    You will need

    For labour
    Drinks
Snack for you and partner(you may be there some time)
long tshirt or nightie(much more comfy than a gown)
    Water sprayer

    For you
    knicks
    sanitary wear
    breat pads
2x pjs (someone can take 1 home to wash while you wear other)
    flannel
    toiletries
towel (you can use hosp ones but i took my own)
    dressing gown
    slippers
you will be able to get someone to bring clothes to go home in when you are discharged and get picked up.
    Change for phone

    for baby
    4 vest
    3 babygros
    hat
    cardi
    scratchmitts
nappies(they do provide them if you don't want to take any)
Coat or big blanket for going home in

P.S don't forget you will need a car seat to take baby home in or they will not let you go

    Congratulations and good luck

I took with me the clothes I was standing in!!!! I wasn't prepared and he came 11days early. My sister brought to the hospital pyjamas for me, wash bag and sanitary stuff, underwear and towel. And for baby nappies, cotton wool, 2 vests, 2 sleepsuits. We went home next day so she collected us with snow suit for baby, blanket and car seat and I went home in the clothes I came in. I gave birth in a hospital gown which was great because wore it with opening at front and baby was put straight onto my chest.
My only tip would be lip balm the gas and air dried my lips out and then once I had kissed my beautiful new born you can guess what I looked like!

Good luck hope it's nice and easy for you
  • thanks everyone

when you google it - the websites give you a list a mile long

you've all put my mind at rest :T
  • Lots of drinks the gas and air makes you thirsty and hospital water is gross
