Dont forget your camera! I know it sounds gorey but pictures of the birth are amazing even if a bit gorey
I'd also recommend socks as sometimes your feet can go really cold
If you have long hair make sure you have a bobble handy as you will get sweaty
Good luckDiabolus fecit, ut id facerem! :male: :female:0 -

Hairdryer, straighteners...the heat on the ward made my hair huge! and everyone wanted pictures

You aren't allowed to use anything which has to be plugged in unless it has been electrically safety tested by the hospitals maintenance department...and you can guess what your chances of that are! If you are very lucky the hospital may just have the hairdryer that Noahs wife used on thw ark stashed in an office for patient use but don't get your hopes up. Take smoothing gel & a butterfly clip so that you can twist it up into a easy elegant knot;).
Everyone will tell you that you won't care what you look like after the birth (which is a good thing!) but you will care a week later when everyone is looking at the photos! I double-dutied & took tinted lip balm & tinted moisturiser, and had my eyelashes tinted the week before, so that at least I didn't look like I had just given birth in the photos:rotfl:Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
As someone who has ended up with 2 c.sections, and therefore 4-5 day stays in hospital my top tips are:
Food/snacks as mentioned by everyone!!!!!!!!! small bottle of squash to add to water if your in for a long time like i always am, and get sick of water.
Also i have always brought a "v" cushion with me-seems like pillows are like gold dust in hospitals, i used this as an extra pillow for me, and then when boys were born, was useful for for support when i fed them as well.
More nappies than you think are needed.Mortgage free 04/03/2025. Thanks to this site and lots of overpayments bit by bit.
Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞0 -
I wouldn't go overboard on the baby stuff until you know how big the baby is - ds was an unexpected full term 5lb2oz bub and we had to go out and get him premmie gear so he didn't drown and leak! Also I found Boots pads had very hard paper edges which were agony with stitches, so the Tesco ones were a godsend. I found that by the time I had stuff from visitors I couldn't move, so keep it minimal and ask oh to bring in a new load of stuff once you know what's what. Good luck! Oh and arnica tablets should help any bruising. And moisturising cream because the hospital was so hot it made my legs crack. I'm trying for another one - I'd forgotten all this.....Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early0

something to put rubbish in, i was in for 3 days & got loads of presents, food & etc & had no where to put the rubbish as there wasn't a bin near + i couldnt get out of bed anyway. There is an attractive stripey carrier in most of the hospital photos!Madison's mum

i had my DS on saturday and would recommend snacks as they only offer you cold toast and tea and as i was in labour overnight the hunger really kicks in.
The other thing is maternity pads.....i would highly recommend Always Maxi Number 12 they are really long so you are covered sitting or standing and are much more comfy than the ones they give you at the hospital especially if you have stitches. They absorbed everything really well.
Good luck with your birthI MAY HAVE NOTHING.....BUT ITS MY NOTHING0 -
I agree with most of the above but if I did it again (not a chance lol) I would pack my make-up! I had this overwhelming need to look stunning as I left hospital & hubbys idea of what I needed was interesting shall we say - more !!!!! of babylon than new mum lol! I'd also take something that smells nice perfume or just handcreme maybe, some mags, a pen!, change for phone & something from home incase you have to say in like I did - could be a picture or fave pillow/cushion even a small houseplant....I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0
