What to pack in Labour Bag?

My kids are all older now but I still remember being starving in hospital after the first baby was born with their meagre rations and breastfeeding for the week while I was stuck in there. Take in or get your visitors to bring in packets of biscuits, cereal bars, fruit etc if you're in for any length of time. Loads and loads of maternity pads, clean pants and nighties too. Nowadays an MP3 player with good headphones would be top of my list to drown out the noise of phones, shouting, babies etc. Best of luck.0

Hi - Good luck with it all!
My advice if you intend to breast feed is to take some nipple spray and some nipple shields because if you are determind to breast feed it really helps if you get sore. That said it depends on how long your stay is as you can be in and out in a flash now, still useful for when you get home. I would have given up breastfeeding without these two things!!
Enjoy the whole experience - there is nothing like the feeling of having a tiny baby in your arms - i'm envious0 -
Mars bar, bottle of lucozade (for afterwards). I would say vodka but I don't think hospitals allow that!:rotfl:The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

one thing that was recommended to me to pack were bendy straws, so you can drink water in whatever odd position you find yourself in..even lying down in bed.
trouble was i forgot to tell the OH all the clever things i'd remembered to pack, and ended up with him trying to feed me water from a cup whilst i was in totally the wrong position to be able to drink!
a week later i remembered about the straws!
so my top tip is to show and tell your birth partner what you have packed and where it is!0 -
Take loads of nighties, pants and pads (breast and below!) You'll be surprised at how many you get through and there is nothing worse than having to lie in a dirty nightie while you're waiting for hubby to return with the washed clean one! (Oh and if he forgets it it's murder!) With my second, I took a picture in a frame of my first which was comforting when I was missing her. You might have a special picture that you would like to take in with you?
I took some lavender room fragrance in the labour room and on the ward afterwards...get's rid of those unwanted hospital smells and can be relaxing during labour (midwives loved it!) Don't forget some bags to put you/babes dirty washing in. Can be unsightly having dirty clothes on the floor!
Good luck0 -
Antibacterial wipes so that you can clean the bathroom before you use it! You haven't seen a dirty bathroom until you've visited the ones on the post-labour wards!
A big bath towel as most hospitals don't supply these (use a dark coloured one...if you don't know why I'm not going to explain it, just trust me;))
Big knickers..lots of them...sorry, couldn't bare the paper ones personally so used my mums old ones:rotfl:I was totally shocked, not by how big my tummy remaind afterwards, but by how wobbly & jelly like it was, thankfully I had got some outsize "control" knickers which made me feel much more supported in the important bits (tummy & more!)
A disposable camera in case you forget your proper one/in case hubby wants to go home & download/develop the 1st ones before you get out.
Lots of snack bars etc, you'll be hungary afterwards & hospital food really is awful!
Ear-plugs : the law of s0d dictates that the only time your babe will be asleep will be when all the others are awake! Trust me, you'll wake up when yours cries, and it's the only way you will get any sleep at all whilst in there!
Good luck;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

Food food food, oh and a spare bra i ended up putting mine back on after baby had been put on my chest after i had my shower!! Luckily i went home that afternoon so it wasn;t too bad.
Good luck and let us know what you have0 -
Disposable knickers, loads of pads and lavender oil to put in your bath (if you have to stay in). I also wore a big t -shirt to give birth in 1st time and then threw it away! With the 2nd I gave birth naked :rotfl: it was far too hot to worry about clothes!

EARPLUGS lots of them, as they fall out when you are asleep, and then everybody elses baby cries and wakes you up, and yours will be a little angel who sleeps through the night. (Well mine was and as she was my first, Im afraid I didnt appreciate it nearly as much as I should've done)
Good Luck

All the above! but one thing I really needed for my first birth was vasaline / chapstick / lip balm for my lips... 18 hours of labour breathing really dried them out! Of course I was ready with two pots of vaseline for my second birth and he was born in 15 minutes once we were at the hospital!
Good Luck!!:D0
