What to pack in Labour Bag?

it's an ultra thick sanitary towel, especially necessary for heavy bleeding and clots post birth (sorry, tmi). They provided these at the hospital i went to

my hospital has them too but they didnt have a sticky bit to keep them still - tescos own come in a pink packet (or did a yr ago) and are only 99p for 10 and they look huge but honest u need them that huge and the extra padding is nice

I've bought a load of Always Night Time ones for my maternity bag - couldn't find any maternity towels with wings.

I'm packing my bag this weekend too. Scary...

cluuuuur im sure i was told not to use always because of the gels - the can make ur bits feel sore and more sensitive (if thats possible after birth lol). check it out to see if i remember right or am mad lol

Sorry in advance for too much information! but I would also take in extra nighties the ones with buttons down the front make breast feeding easier and I bled horrendously (sp?) and was forever changing my nightie. If you have long hair take a bobble to tie it back - remember how hot and sweaty it gets! Take lots of pairs of knickers as well - nice big granny ones!

Clur - you might find that the always pads arent absorbant enough for you especially straight after labour.

You're right - with DS2 in 2005 I got one and it was great - loads of freebies, big tub of pampers, washing tablets, bib, nappies etc. Had DD1 in 2007 - and the pack was some wipes, tiny sudocream and loads of leaflets.

If you really need ones with wings, you should put one on, then a maternity pad on top - just in case your bleeding is heavy

Before and during "birth"-

reading material, mags etc for the waiting
mobile phone topped well up AND FULLY CHARGED! (me being unprepared had one that ran out!)
money/change for car park (lots) (remind your visitors that they need it too as often people aren't prepared for it and than can't get change!)


after op-

new underwear, flannel, deoderant (and any other wash stuff you like to use), hair brush, clean nighty (buttons down front is best for b.feeding), maternity pads, dressing gown, slippers/footwear (I had cheap fleece slip ons from primark -very comfy),

for baby - nappies, cotton balls, blanket (nice to have your own), vest, sleep suits/baby gro. muslins,

on ward - best advice is to pack a small bag for short stay and another for extended stay...my oh bought in stuff for me after and got most of it wrong! eg only brought in 8 nappies for a weeks stay then got sick and left me short - had to phone mum in panic!

Also pack a variety of sizes of baby clothes or leave them organised somewhere really obvious- mine was out of newborn clothes while I was still in hospital and never fitted into some of them at all! Oh was completely unable to distinguish between sizes and once again mum had to come to the rescue.:eek: :eek:
