Though this would be worth repeating here as I think watchdog are keen to follow up.
Apparently BBC Watchdog are keen to hear from people who have been wrongly defaulted and may consider doing a follow up to their recent piece on credit reference files.
So if you have been wrongly defaulted, or have had an incorrectly entered default by way of fact, date, etc then it would be worth contacting them.

I got £2000 compo out of RBS after they re-applied a credit card Default to my records three years after it actually happened, because I could prove that they had damaged my creditworthiness.

Certainly been at lot of damage to the credit worthiness of a lot of people.
Was that compensation based on an assessment of the real effect on you of that? Or was it an arbitrary figure? And if you don't mind me asking, who decided that? The creditor/you, someone like the FOS, the courts?Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Example from Arrow Global. Recording an erroneously recent default in order to harm someone's credit file longer than should be the case.

Their first offer was £50, after which I advised them that I would be charging them for my time in dealing with the matter at my prevailing pay rate, plus I would be expecting them to pay me the same penalty charges for letters and phone calls that they would charge me as a customer.
Their offer increased to £500, but I demonstrated to them that their actions had prevented me from getting market-leading rates for two loans and that I had been refused credit to purchase a car for my job other than via a secured loan from my mortgage provider, as theirs was by then the only negative on my credit files.
After charging them for a few more letters and emails, I sent them an invoice for my time and correspondence fees and advised that I would start a Small Claims Court action if the total was not settled within 28 days.
On day 29, I sent RBS notification of my intended action and received an offer of £2000 a couple of weeks later.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
I have just posted a thread here about finding a Lowell default on my credit file, shall I email watchdog?
I definitely would.
But make sure you tackle it yourself as well, as no guarantee that they will be able to give any active help.
