Sorry, i'm not sure this is in the right section but it is credit card related...
I've just done the free credit report trial to see how my credit is looking, as I want to transfer my balance onto a 0% card.
I was surprised to see I have a default on a Barclaycard account, as I thought the matter was closed - in the last couple of years I have been contacted by 2 debt collection agenices chasing me for a £550 credit card bill...that I know nothing about! I managed to get the matter closed with the first agency after contacting Barclaycard myself, who have no record of me on their system. The second agency has gone quiet after I explained the situation and refused to pay them a penny. I would say I haven't had a letter from them in at least 2 months.
I now have the template letter from Martin's links which I will send on to them, but the thing is, this default supposedly originated in 2002! It is listed as 'settled' under Barclaycard on my credit file, but it is in default under Lowell Portfolio for the same amount.
What can I do to remove it from my credit file? I did have a credit card around that time when I was at university but i'm pretty sure i'd remember not paying it off, and why would it take 10 years to chase me up for it? They've somehow found out my current address and started sending letters to my previous address I moved to in 2010, but nothing before that from Barclaycard or anyone.
I've lived in 3 different counties and 7 houses in the last 10 years so it's baffling.

Well, basically follow the same advice as in this link.

Except that if there is a duplicate but settled default in Barclaycard's name, then you need to repeat with them as well.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Oh, and as said on the other thread. BBC watchdog are interested in hearing again about wrongly placed defaults.

That said, it is the duplication that is the error, not the fact there was a default. I'd deal with the organ grinder and not the monkey - tell the CRA that the Barclaycard default has been picked up by Lowell and re-defaulted.
However, Are you sure they are the same? Your file will not show you anything earlier than 2006, so a 2002 default should not be disclosed. Making it more likely to be a fresh claim.0
