  • Oh I am so so jealous. I have got a birthday coming up so was thinking about the basic Chef which is £170 in Argos at the moment.

Then I remembered that Mum had one and I havent seen her use it for years. Question is how do I ask her nicely if she has still got it and if so will she give it to me?

Maybe I just need to pay her back in cakes. Want to ring her now but she will probably be tucked up in bed!

I wonder how many of these old machines are starting to get used again.

Mines an old one and I love it. It runs very quietly. And you can stilp get attachments.

Does anyone know if you could use the k blade to mix sausage meat?
I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!

Homemade pasta tonight in mine using the pasta maker attachment for the first time. Much less mess and far easier to clean up then I feared and the pasta was delicious (we had it for tea tonight). I took some photos and will try and post later but DD has run off with my phone!

Some tips I discovered during the process if anyone fancies trying it:

Got my pasta machine today too so this is brilliant, thanks Nicki. Couple of questions: did you use normal plain flour or a special pasta/00 flour? And how much did you make / how many portions did that do?

I'm planning on making it for mine & OH's dinner tomorrow & will update on how it goes!

I just used plain flour and it was fine. I used 500g flour, a pinch of salt, 4 eggs and half a teaspoon of oil and this made enough for 2 adults, 2 almost teens and a baby generously.

I always use the dough hook to mix sausage meat, because although it takes a bit longer, it's a lot easier to clean afterwards. ;)

Something along the lines of "Hey Mum, I'm thinking of buying a Kenwood mixer, as they're so expensive can I borrow yours for a couple of weeks to make sure I can get along with it before I buy one". Hopefully she's say, "Take it love, I never use it anyway" :D

    And the total mess made:

All in all, I thought it was worth it!

Thanks Nicki, I'm going to get the pasta maker attachment soon, although I noticed on John Lewis it's gone up from £22 before Christmas to £34  I may have to shop around.
