Just thought I'd update how I've got on with my new KC in the 10 days I've had him so far.
Have successfully made:
Red pepper & sweet potato soup in the blender
Mince pie pastry
Chocolate cupcakes
Naan bread
Gnocchi
Mashed potato
Shortcrust pastry for leek & bacon flan
Breadcrumbs in blender for stuffed peppers
White chocolate mousse
I love it! And OH (chief washer-upper) is also impressed as it's so easy to clean.
Am waiting for Debenhams to deliver my pasta maker attachment and am considering getting the multimill. Has anyone else got that and is it useful?0 -
I noticed on the Curry's website that the 510 which was on sale for £179 before Christmas has gone back up to £354.99! I'm so pleased I took the plunge and bought one when they were cheaper as there's no way I would be able to find that money, or justify it to myself.
I made two teacake loaves yesterday using some pear cider which I bought and didn't like (it tastes of rotten fermenting fruit!). I've got another bottle to use up so will probably make another couple later in the week.
Today I've got dough for four loaves of bread rising.0 -

Glad we got in there at the right time!! No way would I have paid £355.
Four loaves of bread? On the go at the same time? You can't do that in a breadmaker;)Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Precisely
I used to knead it all by hand, but couldn't be bothered kneading it for long enough, plus I don't like getting my hands all gunky - watching Paul Hollywood doing his demos on tv with his hands all clagged up with dough make me feel all sort of panickyAnyway, good old Kenny does it without complaining
The other day I made a ginger cake with it.
Next time I make pastry I'm going to do it in there - do you use the K beater or the dough hook (probably a stupid question)

Yes, as Nicki said K Beater.
I've never been very good at making pastry by hand (hands too hot perhaps?) but it comes out perfect every time now I use my boy.
I have some 00 flour I found in the cupboard that I've been using to make shortcrust, oh my, the pastry is so silky smooth and a wonderful colour.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

If you ever find yourself without it and need to make some by hand, Nigella's top tip is to pop your bowl of flour and diced fat into the freezer for 20 minutes before you rub in, and also to use iced water to bind. Does make it very easy to rub in too.0 -
im joining this thread. I got a 20yr old km201 two days ago. ive had to order a new dough hook tho. and also the juice extracting motor doesnt seem to be working so will have to have that looked at. Out of interest does any of the other attachments use that motor?
hopefully my dough hook should arrive tomorrow. How long rough do you have to have the dough hook running for to make the dough firm?I'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0 -

Is the juice extractor motor the one on the top? If yes, I think there are only a few attachments that use is, the blender is one and the food processor but I don't think that would work on your model anyway. Most other attachements fit on the front.
As for dough, I start off on speed 1 until all the ingredients are blended then give it 4-5 mins on speed 4 to get a really nice silky dough going (didn't even know dough could be silky until I used my Kenwood)
