  • If its just the screen cover have you looked on ebay? I found one for 99p with £2.99 postage and packing.
  • https://www.fonefix.com are quite good, I've used them before. Might be an idea to replace screen yourself or sell the phone.

    Hey there,

I bought a Samsung u600 at my local o2 shop 2 months ago. It's always in my pocket and has never been dropped or bashed. When I went to make a call last week, I realised the screen had broken. I went mad! Went to the o2 shop, she sent it off for repair as they said it would be free unless it needs a lot of work. they have come back to me saying it will cost 93 pounds to repair, hardly worth it so I said I just want my phone back. What can I do now?

Has anyone else had this problem with Samsung screen? Do you think it's worth me sending it on to Samsung ?

    Many thanks for any reply.

This is becoming a major complain with these phones - not just Samsung's. The larger the screen size, the greater stresses on the screen itself with the result that the screen and/or the protective screen surrounding it become damaged.

The problem is that the repairer has deemed that the screen was damaged through misuse, so there is little you can do except learn from the experience. Even if you agreed to pay for the screen swap (and you can get it done for around £45 elsewhere) the same thing can happen again.

Unlike other problems - where you can blame the manufacturer for shoddy components (say when the ribbon in the slider fractures), screen damage invariably happens through 'careless' usage - by this I mean having it a back pocket unprotected then sitting down. It may never have left your pocket but the stresses to the casing cause the screen to shatter.

The bottom line is if you use a large screen mobile, it is IMPERATIVE to treat it with the utmost care, it will NOT take the knocks of your old small-screen model.

Me & hubby bought ourselves 2 new phones in june, SamsungD900i , and hubby`s screen has blown, he must have banged it or something, but he can`t remember how.Anyway, i went into local 02 shop were we bought them from and was told cos its not insured it`ll cost £70 to have it fixed !! we did`nt pay that for one of them.I`ve emailed 02 and they`ve told me the cost is right and they`re sorry about it.
I`ve been quoted £40 by a local bloke to do it, but how can the justify charging that much ? beats me !

They can charge what they like! On ebay you can get a screen for that phone for £30ish but then you have to repair it yourself so cost goes up even more.
Might as well get a second hand phone complete from ebay or ditch it and get a new phone altogether.:confused:

the price difference is between original Samsung parts and cheap chinese copies, we have only used original parts for about 5 years now due to the low quality and reliability of the coppies, i have known copy screens to fail within weeks.

I'm so glad i found this thread! I'm normally a Nokia girl but when it came to replacing my 6230i, this D900 was the only phone i liked. I love it. I was decorating yesterday and i dropped it from only 6 inches from the ground. Half of the screen is blank :o( I don't know whether to fix it or buy a new one?
