PM box sorted, but don't ch'all know my email addy anyway?
Just been annoyed by Tescobank website, wrote a moan message but it was lost by the annoying touchpad on this netbook which sometimes takes a certain movement as a 'back button gesture'.
Was also just filling in a questionnaire and was asked what was my current favourite TV / newspaper ad and I couldn't think of any I had noticed recently...I think....0 -
Yesterday was lovely. It was baking hot as it normally is in Brisbane so I took the kids for a swim in the back yard. The pool is typical of this place. It's a pool (Posh Alert!) that's above ground and cost them $1,000 on eBay!
Then off in the car for a 100km drive to the wedding with the kids left behind in Brsibane (on purpose, not forgotten!).
The wedding was in a lovely spot, by a lagoon at a resort. It was a very modern wedding by which I mean far too long, expensive and self-indulgent. Features of the ceremony included 12 seats for 100 guests, both sets of parents saying vows as well as the bride and groom, the rings being delivered by an eagle and well over an hour of photos afterwards. The entire event was captured by a photographer as well as 2 video cameramen.
Dinner was very nice (prawns followed by salmon with chocolate mousse to finish) and the wine was a lot better than the norm for an Aussie wedding. Oh and there were loads of kangaroos in the resort plus a cane toad (this is QLD after all).
A morning swim today is being followed by a 5 hour drive to Coffs Harbour, a beautiful town on the NSW coast.0 -

Onto more frivolous stuff - here I am sleeping under 2 duvets (all to myself!)I feel like the princess from the 'princess and the pea' story. No other bodies in my bed to warm things up (in any way!), but I do love my hot water bottle. A lot.

and some chap in the US had written my grandpa's article. Can't wait to tell my p and m and sibs.
Life is all about the up's and down's. There will never be a time (or long time) where everything is going great in every department of your life. The answer is within yourself (mind) to manage these situations, whatever they may be.Latest update on michaels family seems less encouraging - looks like being a long one
Michaels - it can be debilitating when situations are only resolved in the long term - particularly when you have to go through a series of 'updates' with unpredicatble outcomes ...so I hope you can build in some lighter moments for you all to share.0 -
Just the part of my life a few years ago that I'm really trying to get closure on... another way that the Universe is trying to show me that I still care and telling me to get a bloody move on I think!Be careful Nikkster, My unfinished PhD thesis is stored on outdated floppy discs in my attic. I took a fulltime job and lost momentum. It was back in the day when Amstrad computers were taking over from BBC Basics. Ah, the march of technology.
Anyway learn from my mistakes !I've never had momentum. I need to find some! I have just under 6 months - hopefully the hard disk its backed up on doesn't become obselete before thenI'll live if it doesn't happen, just need to win my literal mind games...
Nikkster
I spent some time yesterday with some people who either had written up, or were in the process of writing up, PhD theses while working a job. I remembered my experience of writing up while working, and I thought of you.
How much have you already done? How much is left to do? How long do you think that will take (actual hours spent working on it, not passing of days on the calendar)? Double your estimate, and that's probably what it actually will take. Now take a long hard look at your life and ask yourself if you want to invest that amount of time in finishing it off, or not.
If you think it's worth it, then ruthlessly prioritise your thesis until it's done. Treat it like a second job. Allocate times of the day/week to it, and don't allow yourself to do anything else during those times. You will probably also need to forget house hunting until the thesis is in the bag - I can't imagine being able to do both of those and a job without at least one of them not getting done properly.
Or, decide now that the time for that thesis has passed. You wish you had finished it, but you didn't, and now life has moved on and you have not got the time or the energy or the motivation to plough back into a part of your life that's over. Breathe a huge sigh of relief, consign your thesis to the part of your life that belongs in the past with your ex, and move on, now.
Because if you don't act decisively to pick one or the other of those options, you will spend the next 6 months feeling guilty about it, occasionally doing a bit of work on it but not enough, and end up giving up anyway, but with a lasting feeling of closure-less-ness. I don't want that for you.
Good luck whichever you decide.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
On a different note, I miss your old avatar, sss555.
At your service Ma'am. Poached or scrambled?
Puzzle Retreat was the game...
I did the first set (tutorial) and thought this would be a great game for the summer holiday flight. I may just get stuck in anyway.
Silvercar could be the dark horse with this one..0
