What other odd H&S or Statutory/Mandatory training do other NP have?

I've done one on laser safety and one on fire extinguishers. Both in universities rather than schools.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Watching Brian Cox on telly describing how physics affects Biology. It's pretty intereesting. He's covering allometrics about how mass and strength change with size.

He gets to go in a shark cage and what do you know, visit Australia to see kangaroos. ;)

Although somebody told me today that on last night's show he got some very basic physics wrong - said that heavy objects fall faster than light ones because they have more kinetic energy.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: (NB This isn't true.)

I think I've mentioned before, but I had to do a course on fire extinguishers. It told us what colour label's what, but then totally missed out how to use them. Brilliant piece of box ticking.

Just got back from 3 great days' holiday here. MSE'ers will be pleased to know that our wedding anniversary coincides with the 35% off period! It's our one big treat of the year, as we don't really go in for exotic foreign holidays.

We love the walking round there and in the grounds. Yesterday, we did 8 miles, which is not too bad for a couple of unfit old fogeys.

Sounds (and looks) bliss. Happy Anniversary!

And this from the man who said that Stephen Hawking was wrong to appear in the Go Compare advert because the science of black holes used was wrong...

I got a Certificate for my CPD for attending a half day away day where we played the world's hardest ice breaker quiz that lasted for half the morning. THe winners got about 8 points. Then we wrote some stuff on a flip chart paper. Time I will never get back.

The fire extinguisher one too. Several times as I ended up doing it for half my colleagues. God help us lot in a fire!

And a morning with a man on the technical side of government secure email. That was matchstick eyelids territory.

Quality training for BS5750...not once but 3 times as others kept failing! Oh and to add insult to injury, I broke 4 toes on the blooming books the day I went back to work after my honeymoon.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Ah, I remember that one too! I was the one who pointed out the obvious flaw in the course...

My fire extinguisher course was unusual then. They had a huge tray of oil that they kept setting on fire, and then each of us in turn had to put it out with the CO2 extinguisher. Actually, come to think of it, I've done that twice - once at a university and once at a school.
