And there I was foolishly thinking kids might get a bit cheaper after they turn 21...Same here, light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully.
As far as our finances go, DS2 has finished private school now, and subsidising him at university is cheaper than private school fees.

Lots of food for thoght really.
Best of luck. Can you drum up some decent sponsorship to cover the costs and provide raffle prizes?Murphy was an optimist!!!0 -
Am I the only one with a grandchild?
Don't know how old Spirit and Purch are. know John Pierppoint and Davesnave's older than me, and possibly Mystic Trev. PN, Viva and silvercar's younger. as are probabaly most of the others 30s-40s and some of the newer posters maybe 20s.

Have you tried coloured lenses or overlays? Just that those sort of symptoms seem to be apparent with those with Irlens....and Irlens is more prevalent with those who have an ASD.
Never heard of Irlens... I'll have to google it and see if I've got that, or if it's just one of those things :00 -

Aren't quantities and not being able to visualise amusing .... A couple of weeks ago I ordered some small round shinies from the Internet, probably 8mm from memory. 72 pieces.
Brain was telling me to expect a small bag, probably the size of a packet of fags and a half. They've turned up today, it's more like a matchbox.0 -

I could say we scrimped and saved....
but at the time it looked like my work was taking off and we would be able to afford it.
DS1 went to a state grammar school that was going to give him the opportunity for very decent results and personal development, and that was free. DS2 would have hated that academic pushy environment but we wanted to ensure he got the best education for him- not just academically but all round. So we looked, we saw a school that suited him, we thought and we made the decision that his education was important enough for us to spend on it. Being quite aware that if we hadn't have been able to afford it we wouldn't have done it, and that he would have done OKish had he gone to the school he would otherwise have gone to.
we were also aware that what prompted us to look around was that DS1 was getting this brilliant education and so we wanted to match the opportunity for DS2.
And the outcome on paper is that they ended up at the same university doing very similar courses, with their A levels being just one grade in one subject apart, but they are very different children and they have been educated (at secondary level) in very different ways. They always were very different children and they still are, though they have certain traits in common, which neither OH or I have.
In terms of private vs state, they both went to state primary, so only one quarter of our children's education has been private.
I'm rejecting the POSH comment, on the grounds that truly posh people only look at private schools.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Am I the only one not looking forward to the clock change due shortly?
I can cope with finishing a train journey home in the dark, but when I start the journey home in the dark, well....that's just depressing.
If Scotland go independent can we scrap this clock change malarkey?0
