I might throw readers of the rest of the board this bone to give them something to 'talk' about http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-21385919
Nooooo, not that topic! I come here to escape that one. Quick, hide it before Hamish shows up.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? A quick message for Pastures. Wanted to say thanks for the recommendation re the Queen of Versailles. It was an extraordinary film, really enjoyed it. I know the area where her house is and the area where the Westgate offices are quite well. I'd long heard that she goes shopping at the local Walmart and thought 'yeah right' then saw it on film!
Brilliant view of parallel reality - you go from really disliking them to feeling a bit sorry for them. Since the film was made they've sold the Vegas resort and the staff in Orlando have been given a pay rise. However I also read in the local paper when I was there in October that he'd told his staff that if they wanted to keep their jobs they had to vote for Romney. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I've not put too much thought into this, however I am secretly trying to get out of it a little, as I'm happy the way we are.

Having said that there have been more deaths in the highlands recently and more people lost so sadly I'm not the only person who misjudges places like that.
Always fancied the maldives but glad we didn't get married there after reading this news item.

But it might be a good topic to start a thread about out on the rest of the board.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Potemkin - Odessa Steps: can you get Sergei Eisenstein to do the wedding video? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

Hamish's views are partly shaped by his location in Aberdeen, which is a boom town at the moment. I think its fortunes will reverse dramatically in 5/10 years time, once the effect of shale oil and gas hits the North Sea industry.
However, much to my amazement, he has proved fundamentally right in that government policy together with an unquenchable demand for property have combined to prop up house prices rather successfully. So, the score is Hamish 1 - GDB 0, and well done Hamish!
Viva, I'm happy to take this down again, as I agree it's off topic for the thread. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

That is just so funny. Utterly duped, but quite harmless! :rotfl::rotfl:No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Dogs are more capable of understanding situations from a human's point of view than has previously been recognised, according to researchers.
Dr Juliane Kaminski, from the University of Portsmouth's psychology department, said the study was "incredible because it implies dogs understand the human can't see them, meaning they might understand the human perspective".

This was about dogs being 4 times more likely to steal food when the lights went out. It is suggested that the dogs know that this means the humans can't see them, so it's safe to steal the food.
I think that there may be a completely different explanation, namely that there is reinforcement to the dogs' behaviour from their owners which inhibits the dogs from stealing the food. When the lights go out, the humans can no longer give that reinforcement, so the dogs are much more likely to steal. Would any dog trainers care to comment? No reliance should be placed on the above!
