Ultra- small low-key wedding in a registry office for us too.
Immediate family only.
Not here....
High church of the town, ushers and groom in top hat and tails, horse and carriage, Rolls Royce for the bridesmaids (4 of them) and a vintage car for the grandparents, followed by a sit down meal for 70 and an evening reception for 150.
And all done on a budget, amazing what deals you can get when you get different companies vying for your business. Mind you, would have been cheaper had my parents gone for the meal choice I had pinpointed for our sit down meal...they decided to go for a more expensive meal and drinks package and then spent the next 10 years moaning about it!:DWe made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Maybe get married in the lovely village of Nurburg beneath the beautiful ruin of Nurburg Castle then celebrate with a lap of honour around the Nurburgring with all the spectators cheering from 'Small Fountain'...:j0 -

DW was distracted from her studying by penguins doing the nastee. I got home late (in order to fit in with the end of rainbows, got home, put the dinner on, turned off the water on the utility room tap which is leaking, grabbed a slice of pizza, went back out to fetch DD1 from brownies stopping to buy the Sun (token collect for free family cinema ticket) and some pancake shaker mix (free with topcashback click and save), got home bit more pizza, wash up, apply skin cream and prayers to DDs, back downstairs to sand off and oil worktop around kitchen sink as utility sink now out of action and then upstairs to help DW with herhomework and buy house insurance as it is due tomorrow choosing between cheapest policy with cashback at 121 or more expensive policy no cashback risk and extra cover for keys, accidental damage etc for 144. Now I should really be finding cheapest toothbrush heads for kids who seem to love to bite them and ordering a new tap but those will have to wait until tomorrow, I am also trying to put off purchases as I only have a 1% cachback credit card at the moment and I have 3% and 6% (if Barclaycard ever get their act together) cards on order.
PS Is anyone else having major trouble with the magnetic strip on their train ticket at the moment, mine seem to fail at least once every week for the last month or so whereas before that they never used to failI think....0 -
Have you done the flight in economy? I could never sleep on planes, even as a kid and used to get really bored/frustrated as everyone around me snoozed. I did Aus-UK-Aus a couple of times in economy and it really was miserable, apart from when we managed to get a couple of empty rows. I'm also a terrible fidget and find being made to sit like a proper grown up for so long quite unbearable.
Business made the whole thing so much more bearable, being able to stretch out, fidget without disturbing anyone, the increased sense of space (I think I have mild claustrophobia). Plus it's great to have a shower wherever you stop and make yourself a cup of tea in the lounge.
I have posted on the holidays board this weekend as we are looking for a Maldives holiday this year to celebrate our 30th anniversary. We started looking a few months ago but got fed up with 'too much choice'. We were paralysyed by indecision and it was putting us off.
Neat joining of 2 comments.
The only long haul flight I have done is to the Maldives (25th wedding anniversary treat). We found that the same deal with British Airways was £2000 more expensive than flying Thomson Airways. Economy plus on Thom. Air was bearable, no business seats so no option to upgrade. Top tip: Curiously First Choice and Thomson are both owned by TUI, offer the same holidays often at different prices.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Can I suggest that you buy more expensive toothbrushes? I have never heard of anyone being able to bite the top off them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. A good sprinkling of heavy snow today but nothing settled. A bit disappointing really.
We got married in a RC church 30 years ago this year. It was a year after my father had died and we did not know it but OH's mum was terminally ill . She died 10 weeks after our wedding. I am glad she saw her beloved son married and was in the midst of a family gathering in those final weeks.
It was very 80's - pronuptia dress, Trust House Forte hotel reception for 100+.
Lovely honeymoon, a night in an old hotel in Wells then back to our new home for a night then bunk beds on the St Malo Ferry as we went to a gite in Brittany.

I found the same thing with the Maldives, in the end, faced with about 10 different choices, and after much timewasting reading every trip advisor review we just picked one more or less at random.
My advice would be to be careful to avoid the islands which have overbooking problems. There is nothing worse than arriving to find that the super deluxe mega expensive water villa you booked 9 months ago isn't available and that they want you to stay in a grotty beach hit instead but kindly offer you a free bowl of fruit to make up for it. Happened to us and although it was only two nights out of 17 it nearly ruined the holiday.
We went to Veligandu - everything else about it was great apart from overbooking issues. I expect that there isn't a lot of difference between islands in the same price bracket as each other - they are probably all operated on very similar business models. Certainly our friends who have been to different islands in about the same bracket as the one we went to seemed to get a very similar experience.0 -

There's an Orthodox church at the top of the Potemkin Steps in Odessa, UA that we were thinking about, although OH has also said that she'd like a wedding in Italy.
I once would have quite liked to have married in the city that I was born, however since the 2008 Russian invasion of the part of Georgia I was born in (a city called Sukhumi, in the now breakaway region of Abkhazia), my family is far too well known in Georgia for this to be a safe option.
Tbilisi was another option, or possibly Israel. We're politically limited in where we can actually marry, as where we both have British, Israeli and Russian passports, my (4th) Georgian passport is one that whilst the Geo government will let her in, marriage is a problem due to the regulations to protect young women from exploitation.
I've not put too much thought into this, however I am secretly trying to get out of it a little, as I'm happy the way we are.

ETA: We're both racers, but not near a racetrack, although Sabine !!!!!!z, who actually taught us the track, will be invited!💙💛 💔0 -
I might throw readers of the rest of the board this bone to give them something to 'talk' about http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-213859190
