Oh, and you will all be pleased to know I have FiNALLY reapplied for a passport again. While I still am not allowed on planes, soon I can Eurostar or boat...or presumably swim, legally to The continent at least.

Goodness...usually one sees adverts for food brands for Chinese new year, but I have seen nothing.

Big week next week then, Chinese new year, valentines, shrove tuesday.
Plus Red Hand Day for Child Soldiers. the International Mother Language Day to take us to the end of LGBT History month and the start of Fairtrade Fortnight, ending just before Mother's Day! Oh yes and two family birthdays!

Who actualy runs the calendar? It's absolutely jam-packed and I'm worried I'm going to miss Look After Your Elbows Weekend or something.

Hahaha, funnily, one of the things dh used to love about me was how soft my elbows were, I remember thinking 'well that's somewhere I have never had a compliment about before). All that moisturising after bathing does pay off.

It's just such an alien concept of family to me. Because relocation and distance was 'normal' to us and independance was prized I have to admit I would feel stiffled if I felt this was my parents' attitude. I think that the norms I grew up with feel more usual now that travel is so much easier and communication is just.....almost always available.

We did factor in being near my parents when buying, but ...in reality, all of us would cope if we went elsewhere.

The people who lose most I think are younger people. Children benefit so much from good relationships with extended family, I see so many examples of how important that network is. It's a shame when that is less easy, less independant of parents.

I am quite preparted to travel long distances to see kith and kin. When Mrs Z and I were engaged we lived very apart for a year.

My parents and siblings all live 450 miles away and we pop up there every chance we get to see them.

If I emigrated I'd probably spent too much of my time and income travelling home, not due to homesickness but to see people.

Welcome to the thread Almo...my bio is a couple of pages back.

Re gay marriage, I don't really mind either way as long as I can get married in church again as a divorced person, until that day, I won't be remarrying as I cannot reconcile my beliefs and a registry office ceremony...the two just don't go together for me (it's ok for others, just not for me)

Oh, I have one cat who has been chipped (and has excellent insurance!)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I went to the wedding of a workmate who was remarrying (his wife had divorced him many yars ago). The service was in a RC church and officiated by the local RC parish priest. The couple pointed out later that because the ceremony was in a chapel at the side of the main church it was allowed. A lot of the guests probably thought they'd attended a straightforward Catholic wedding.
Admittedly they were regular churchgoers who knew the priest very well -it meant a lot to them.

They seemed very happy with it, and we were all pleased for them.

    Welcome Almo :hello:

Will take time to settle back into the UK the way things are in Europe.

I have a friend who is going through the same thing after being abroad for a long time and she's struggling with it all.

The NPT (nice people's thread) is a good place to start :)
