I plan to ask dh tonight whether it would have changed how we got married for him, because I don't know. Personally I think we felt spiritually married before our wedding, but a wedding with religious peeps from both backgrounds was planned originally (was easy to find a rabbi who had done such things, harder to find one of 'my lot') but I didn't feel that was appropriate as I have not practised for years and years. I would have liked a Druid or something though, ipn that beautiful tree cathedral. We did talk about having 'a party' as a housewarming, but then didn't, then a tenth wedding anniversay...but I cannot see we will have anywhere by then to do it, and of course, it's a lot of planning and potential money if I then 'feel sick' at the time.
OH and I [heterosexual couple] are not married and it was not on our radar for a long time. We have only very recently moved back to the UK from Australia, where we were recognised as 'de facto' partners, legally and financially. Now we are back in the UK we need to investigate the implications of not being married in some detail and consider our position and our next step, if any.
I like the idea of a big party and celebration with friends and family but am not fussed about being married or otherwise. Love going to other people's weddings though!0 -

Apparently Oz was great until this rather brash banker and his family moved over and since then things just haven't been the same; can't remember the guys name but I think it began with a G and sounded vagely like a dodgy Italian insurance company...I think....0

A few reasons really, but mostly we just felt that we'd come to the end of that adventure. We've missed a lot of weddings, babies and other important events. My partner's dad had a life threatening accident while we were out there, so we got one of the horrible phone calls, and he now has some heart issues. All in all, for now, there seemed to be more pulling us back to the UK than keeping us in Australia.
That said, we are both certain that we will live overseas again in the future, not sure where. I was born overseas and only did 8 years in the UK before our 6 years in Australia, I would very much like to go back to Asia, where I was born, for a few years.
Coming back has been a rollercoaster ride so far, and I have not found work which I'm finding quite tough. I haven't been looking for long and am confident I will find something, so it's not the being unemployed aspect which I'm finding hard, but we deliberately moved to a new area of the UK so we don't know anyone and, wearing my heart on my sleeve, I'm lonely and quite homesick for Australia right now!
Sorry, that was quite a long post for a newcomer to the thread!0 -
Thanks for sharing Almo. I hope things pick up for you. xHerman - MP for all!0
