Nifty 50, I like it! Though poo does just about sum up what I think of the price of oil and its refined, taxed, outputs.

As many of you know we are down sizing and moving on to a more managable dwelling than we have at the moment and this time we are putting the considerations of what my wife and I desire, we have looked after the elderly and brought up a daughter and now we are looking at spending our time together happily.

We moved, four years ago, from a house to a bungalow to dispense with stairs which for my wife, who cleans everything twice, was finding difficult and tiring, sometimes coming back down again to try and remember what she had gone up there for in the first place.

Our plan is to find another bungalow that is close to a bus route, within walking distance of a provision shop, not too many miles from the Medical Health Centre, where the hospital is within a reasonable distance away.

The time will come whereby we will not be wishing to drive very far and want to prepare to part with the car. All these points have to be considered as we get older we have to prepare and accept change as need be.

I can see the mirror image that many of us have in our preperation for our old age, and to cater for our individual needs, here I am now turned seventy and looking forward to having more freedom and simple holidays to fill in my time along with my Lady of course. All exciting stuff:)

Out walking this weekend we wandered into a sales office locally (as in a show home where the show home will be when built). 2 bed flats being built right next to the station. The sales guy had expected that they would be snapped up by young commuters, a large percentage had been taken by retiring couples eager to ditch their cars.

In the light of today's news.

If your spouse had 9 points on their licence and got caught speeding again, knowing that these last 3 points would trigger a ban and you would end up schlepping them around for the next 6 months, wouldn't you be tempted to do the nice thing and take their points?

(As this is MSE we could even consider the extra cost of car insurance following a ban.)

I know plenty of people that have taken the points of another family member (the jurisdiction of this despicable act will not be named and I was not involved).

AIUI it is quite common in Australia, France and the UK. The 3 countries that I know very well.

I have limited sympathy with Huhne. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. This happens a fair bit. I found these while looking for a different case. I'm a little surprised as to the extent of it but a couple of months behind bars seems proportionate to me:

    http://metro.co.uk/2013/01/07/facecrook-driver-jailed-after-internet-appeal-for-volunteer-to-take-penalty-points-3342346/
A driver has been jailed after advertising on Facebook for a volunteer to take his penalty points.....

Actually, a Google shows that this is quite a common way to mess up your life:

    http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/429979/20130131/roger-moore-fake-cctv-footage-speeding-fine.htm
Moore was sentenced to 16 weeks, suspended for two years, for perverting the course of justice. He was also ordered to pay £2,000 costs.

    http://www.granthamjournal.co.uk/news/local/judge-jails-motorist-telling-him-his-behaviour-smacks-of-arrogance-1-4738897
A motorist was jailed yesterday (Wednesday) for three months after trying to dodge getting penalty points on his driving licence when he was caught speeding.

Ultimately the law has to be upheld.

I wasn't talking about me, but I know people who allegedly have.

As the transaction costs of house buying & selling are so high would it make sense to buy your 'forever home' as your next property rather than waiting until you are 65?

You will have longer to build up a network and settle in to the community.

Not to mention the time cost and the stress involved.

I heard that moving's one of the most stressful things you can do. Did it almost eight years ago and don't want to do it again. Proabably will have to when the kids have both moved on though.

Our house is only yards from some good shops including a small Waitrose. Good pubs and restaurants in case we ever had enoughh money to go out. Good buses, train station's close. Not much free parking space though. Hospital's a bus ride away but we're near a miain road to ambulances are always passing by. Near a fire station and a huge police station too, and good parks for walking the dog.

Last houase was big but in the sticks and I couldn't stand the incovenience. You couldn'#t buy so much as a box of matches or a stamp without ctlimbing into yout car.
