Today my wife any I have had a visit from our daughter SB who is at Portsmouth Uni' for the whole day and it has been wonderful catching up on the news since we last saw her about six weeks ago.

This evening we had a home made Mexican Oldelpaso Spice Mix for Fayitas with Salsa Sauce, lettuce and cheese. Which went down well.

We will be taking her back to Uni in the morning with a lot of her clothing etc that she is in need of. Plus her X-Box.

So it has really made our day because seeing that we waited so long for her, and being our only child we miss her so much but do realise that she has to make her own plans for her future life.

I thought that I would share our joy and happiness with all of you happy people.:)

James has a conditional offer from Portsmouth. What is it like? Does she like it there? Etc etc etc :)

Wonder if any of you have heard of Lindsey Stirling, a violinist, she was on America got talent or something but was booted off, James introduced her music to me a couple of weeks ago and I was so suitably impressed, I ordered her CD....it had to come all the way from the states!

Link to her version of Phantom of the Opera http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCL94-MsxYc although I still prefer the Nightwish version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqN8_YGQdU4

Other work for her and one of my favourites is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf6LD2B_kDQ
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Hi SB here :)
I love it at Portsmouth. The city itself is great; everything is so close (accommodation, uni buildings, shops, nightlife, station, buses, etc). The course I'm on is really good, with some great lecturers - and my tutor is fantastic. I've heard good things about other courses too. What course has he applied for?

    Hi SB...great to hear!

He applied for Film and television studies but has been offered a place on Entertainment technology, a course which is much more like the one he has applied for at NUA (formerly NUCA), his first choice uni.

Looking at where you are .... doesn't that mean she's only been a few miles away?

And, I hadn't realised before, I'm close to you ... kind of.

We are so fortunate that SB is not so far away as she could have been because she was offered places at Birmingham Uni and one in Buckinghamshire.

Travelling by train can be expensive also time consuming if delays are experienced.

    Hi SB again :)
I don't think I know anyone doing Entertainment Tech I'm afraid. But one of my flatmates does Film & Television and she loves it. I also know quite a lot of other people doing various media/music/games tech courses and they all love them too - so that one he's been offered should be just as good.

Bertie, that is really lovely. I'm glad you have had such a nice day.

That makes me feel quite guilty about not having seen my parents since Christmas :o Although I have a trip back pencilled in for next weekend - as my brother might be moving to America next month  and he might be going back next Saturday.

He had an interview for a promotion when I had my interview - he didn't get it, but the successsful candidate turned out to be not so great and left before they were pushed and they have offered to my bro. I told him there was nothing to think about when he said they had offered - but just in case I think they are going to make it seriously worth his while. Just when I thought I was getting on even terms he goes and changes the game :rotfl: Seriously though, even if I am a teensy bit jealous, I am very mostly pleased and proud :)

Bearing in mind Bertie's post, I will have to try and make more of an effort when I am the only child in the country :A

Thank you for such nice comments and we hope that your trip for next weekend becomes a reality especially seeing that your brother might be moving across the Pond to America, an oppertunity not to be missed. Because I can see that he is special to you and will be greatly missed and we wish him all the best.

For us, Portsmouth is one of the far away universities with NUA being the closest...only an hour on the train for Norwich.

It would be so nice for you as a family if NUA was the first choice then it would not feel as though you were really seperated by too many miles, we still feel as though SB is within easy reach which is so comforting to my wife and I. We all hope that you are will be happy with the final choice.:)

Thats nice to know that we are not a million miles away from each other, at the moment that is because as you may have heard our house will be going on the marker in a couple of weeks time and the who knows where we may end up.;)

I had a blast from the past today.

Years ago, when youngest was very small, he had a helper at the special needs playgroup he attended. At the time, youngest was completely shut off, closed down and non communicative, out of all of the staff there, she was the only one who was able to connect with youngest, she was the only one (apart from me) where the shutters would occasionally open and see what his potential was.

She was an absolute godsend, she knew exactly where I was coming from (her son had been almost the same and she had met many brick walls when he was growing up) and without her, goodness knows where I would have been.

Anyway, me and middle son saw her today and she hadn't changed a bit. She was a bit shocked by how old middle son is now but even more shocked when I told her youngest is 15 next month! She was so pleased to hear how youngest has got on and was also able to offer me some hope, her son is now married, with children and a successful business, something she thought impossible all those years ago.
