I think that your OH may have hit the nail on the head and your cleaner may be totally unaware of what has happened. Is there any way that the cheques can be traced to an address where the offender may dwell?

All made out to different names for large amounts. She is on her way home, what is she buying? Giving money to people with UK bank accounts, this is fraud rather than buying presents. The cheques are coming back to me apparently.
The advice given that you mustn't hate her is 100% correct as nothing is ever gained if you take to hating a person, it would only give you greater stress in the end,

I don't hate her, but I hate what she has done. I hate the fact she betrayed a trust. I hate the fact that she has caused me stress and potential loss, when all I've done is give her work.
the young lady is totally innocent of all charges until proved otherwise, as you say her values and morals could well be distances apart from yours.

Well the fact that the cheques were all made out to people from her home country, that the fraud happened just days after she left. if she thought she wasn't doing wrong, why not take the whole books or the front cheques, or write on the stubs "nicked". This was a plan to disguise and go undetected long enough to get away.

If it was her mate, then she must have told her mate when she was going away and the mate must have taken the cheques knowing she was going to be going away - the mate didn't come to clean! At the very least she was an accomplice.

No, its because michaels makes a habit of opening new accounts to take advantage of offers.

For those of you that just want to try haggis in a totally different way try a 'deep fried haggis' it is shaped in the form of a large sausage this is a favourite of many in Scotland, a snack on the way home from the pub.:)

Being on the South Coast of England I cannot find a chippy that has them:(

I was a teenager before I'd tried link sausages. Sausages were always square slices (actually a trapezium but hey-ho).

What I always miss in chippies are mutton pies. Oh and pakora which I can't seem to go for more than a few months without mentioning.

Cheques.... need signatures. Which means long enough to find them. Ergo, harder for an occasional bypasser.

Silvercar, how distressing. Somebody that you trusted and let into your home. I would feel awful if it happened to me. :(
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Yup, saw this already, account costs £15 pm and you have to have it open for '21 days' before they send out the gift card and there is 30 days canx period so at least £30 in fees.

I wonder if you can opt not to a cheque book ;)
