Me and James got busy with a piece of cardboard and some sellotape today on a very draughty window in his bedroom...our DIY of insulation! It seems to have done the trick, you can no longer see your breath in his room....

Mind you, think James and middle son overheated the house, I told them they could put the oil filled radiator on in the front room and because I felt unwell, then went upstairs for a lay down. Well they put it on and it worked because when I came downstairs, I had to go outside in the snow to cool down! Goodness knows what my electric bill is going to be like but at least they were warm and it is only for a few hours, so no real harm done.

Not a scoobie what is up with me today, going hot and cold (very cold) but nothing else, no cough, snotty nose etc..I did joke maybe I am going through the change and having a hot spell which made me feel dizzy and a bit icky. Once cooled down, I felt absolutely fine.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

....stick into an oven at 190 centigrade til golden on top. ...
This is the bit where "cooking for one" does it differently... it'd be "turn down the pan and allow cake to keep cooking gently for 10 minutes or so, turning 2-3x until both sides are golden brown.... slide out onto a plate and eat". No faffing about with ovens... in fact, if you've got enough thick dishcloths it can be eaten straight out of the frying pan with a fork. :)

There's some odd/posh stuff in there - and gruesome black pud - I'd not want.... so mine'd end up really as onions (instead of leeks), spuds, cheesy middle .... hurrah .... and it's a pan-fried cheese/potato pie :)

It'd need either a splash of brown sauce or some nuked beans.

It's purely because it's something I hadn't done before and the oven has a fan.

Next time I will be far more blase. Definitely a building confidence up thing. Hopefully I've spelt blase correctly. I definitely don't want to be blaze!
It's got an accent: blas! oh - that letter's censored.... e with an accent over ....

Edit: blas! - even the coded version's censored.
    BLASÉ :)

It doesn't turn, it's too soft. You could grill it though I think, of you fried the insides from longer and used freshly mashed potato. (I knew I would not be able to do it in one session today so mashed the potatos when I got up this afternoon:o.

Nothing too odd, black pudding is fairly unposh. Parmesan used to be posh (btw I tend to use grana as its cheaper) but its tuppence ha'penny now. You could, theoretically use another sheesh, but the Parmesan is a good choice. Blue cheese can be posh or not ( I mean, there have been in posh eaters of British blue cheese for a very long time!) and gruyere isn't so posh, compte might be a bit more posh but it's also nicer. We used gruyere because it's what I had, and Stilton, likewise.

The fading about with ovens is a bonus returning to the heating discussion.....it keeps you warm.....I do It often.

Edit..I don"t mean tuppence ha'penny that's a different phrase. I mean ten a penny, which is also not right, it's not cheap, but it's not exclusive now.

You remind me of the time that I was on my own in the house for a few weeks and did my cooking etc exactly as you describe.

Fresh out of the cooking utensil and straight into my welcoming mouth, how enjoyable.

My wife said that I had gone back to being a 'cave dweller':):)

Did anybody else just watch the Grand Designs with the Irish bloke and the castle/folly he bought over 20 years ago for £117k?

Work in progress, with an initial 1.2million Euros promised, ground to a halt over credit crunch issues.

OH watched it and called me in to see......it was all a bit OMG. Was he trying to turn it into a luxe guest house/holiday let for artistes etc?
I think it was a job too big for his ability (he was an actor/writer) and his available funds sadly.

I think he got it watertight so guess it'll sit there for another decade until someone comes along to finish it off.

The lush Kevin wasn't too impressed with what he was doing to it.

Your GP can do a blood test to see hormone levels and let you know if you are in the change.

Loving the snow this time.....can walk to work if need too so not trapped. It's so pretty outside :)
    Hope everyone is well.

LIR is your kitchen finished now?

The only danger that I've heard is if your oven has plastic knobs, which could start to melt in the heat, (Assuming that the oven door is left open). Check also that the labels on the switches don't start to peel off.

What do you mean by finished FC?

Nice builder has done a beautiful job, there is some very minor snagging to do, but it includes outside stuff. No point in him coming to do minor stuff in two trips rather than one, or two trips rather than three :)

We have a temporary kitchen in the new space. I guess we will get a 'finished' kitchen in a few years. I'm not in a rush.

We were going to paint over christmas but didn't. When my wrist is better I might start the hallway painting though.

My one experience with parmesan was in the 1980s when I went to a Pizza Hut and they had this "sprinkling cheese" (parmesan) - it was ferkin' gross.... and made me stay well away from parmesan forever... but a few months ago I heard Jamie Oliver showing it being grated, as a fresh cheese - and I started to wonder if maybe the 1980s Pizza Hut version was minging by default and "real parmesan" was actually nice/r.

I always buy cheese at £5/Kg (mature cheddar for biggest taste). I just used MySupermarket to look up the price of Parmesan:

    Sainsburys: £24.88/Kg
Asda: none showed up in the search
    Tesco: £16/Kg

So it doesn't count as cheap as chips when you view it against £5/Kg :)

If I had such a big place I'd not be seeing it as one space, I'd get it watertight, then have half of it made habitable, then do the rest... at least that way you get to live in it if you run out of dosh.

I'd have been developing it as flexible living accommodation that I could live in all or part of it, age/finances/whims depending.

It snowed here Friday, most gone by Saturday, all gone now. Outside it's now cool, but the car's not even 1% frosted at all.
