Fortunately, the employees can get their wages and redundancy pay paid by the DWP. I'm not sure about tips. It's a mean trick, though.

I also feel sorry for the suppliers and landlord, who will be out of pocket and could face financial difficulties as a result of this.
Although this only covers up to a certian wage level - probably OK for most restaurant staff?
    I think....

Thank you michaels, no need for an apology, it's my fault I forgot to say, but thank you all the same for saying congrats. I just realise that as a midwife I now have to watch what I say online but I wanted to update you all because you were all very supportive.

The limit is £430 a week, which I assume is net of tax and NI, so yes it will cover most restaurant staff. It also covers notice periods, holiday pay, redundancy pay, etc.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I never get this business of posting something then taking it down. There's a reasonable chance that Google or some other site will have cached it. Besides, some of us can still remember that there was mention of somewhere naval, somewhere regal, and somewhere with an archbishop*. Good luck with the course, by the way, MM!

    .

The weird thing is it is in the absolute plumb spot in Chester, it keeps changing hands I can only think that the rent & rates must be sky high.

Very sad, kudos to the poster of the message for showing such restraint. I think that would be one employable person,

    Impressively restrained indeed.

What a soab, they could have been using their 'break' to seek work. People sicken me at times.

With hindsight, I guess alarm bells could have started ringing if they were given a 'break' over the festive period - which surely should be a busy period? That is not to say that I don't feel completely sympathetic to everyone who has been well and truly shafted in this situation - if that is how they treat employees, I expect there will be a lot of suppliers etc who have also lost out.

I hope karma catches up with whoever was responsible for that.

So, thankfully I don't appear to have norovirus. Phew! Although it would probably have helped my New Year diet:rotfl:

    What a b@stard!

I'd quite like to see the staff clubbing together and making a go of this, it would be so nice for them not to be out of work!

It was obviously in profit, as there was money to be taken (if the article is 100% true)
