Nice people thread part 7 - a thread in its prime

With hindsight, I guess alarm bells could have started ringing if they were given a 'break' over the festive period - which surely should be a busy period? That is not to say that I don't feel completely sympathetic to everyone who has been well and truly shafted in this situation - if that is how they treat employees, I expect there will be a lot of suppliers etc who have also lost out.
I hope karma catches up with whoever was responsible for that.
The notice stated that it was after the Christmas period, presumably from the 2nd Jan (although I suppose it is still in the 12 days but not quite so obvious).'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

Ah ha - I didn't read it properly. I read over rather than after the festive period. Doesn't make it any less shoddy though obviously. January is usually a financially lean month for people anyway, but you don't usually budget for your job suddenly disappearing too.
Edit - in fact perhaps it is even worse... there wereprobably larger than usual tips from Christmas parties etc0 -
Hmmmm. Once lived in a lovely area where we rented out our house. Didn't end up gettng shafted . But other landlords seem to have had a hard tme there. And used the same remedy.
In 2009 this and this happened.
and then in 2011 this happened.
There aren't that many letting agencies in the area but one by one they met the same end. We used the last one which did a runner but had finished with them before this trouble.
Put a shiver down the spine of some of the NPs I might venture.:eek:There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
I never get this business of posting something then taking it down. There's a reasonable chance that Google or some other site will have cached it. Besides, some of us can still remember that there was mention of somewhere naval, somewhere regal, and somewhere with an archbishop*. Good luck with the course, by the way, MM!
*Just showing off that I haven't totally lost my faculties yet.
I don't think google or the archive's searchbots have access to the members only threads. Try googling your posts and see what you get. I think we're fairly safe here.
Speaking of t'internet we had a look at getting a cheaper service and ended up just downgrading our cable service. We got something called a Tivo box and faster internet (I think) and it's a few quid cheaper, and there's fewer cables as the new modem's a wireless router too.. No Sky One though but we can live with that. Not bad for a downgrade! There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I'd quite like to see the staff clubbing together and making a go of this, it would be so nice for them not to be out of work!
It was obviously in profit, as there was money to be taken (if the article is 100% true)

I doubt it was in profit. The rent was payable on the December quarter day, and the owner probably had run out of cash by then.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Well, dry January seems to have gone wrong. It took me 156 minutes to type this message.0

I'm enjoying Beowulf right now, and pleased to be looking forward to a year with the 50th anniversary of the Doctor, plus plans for a PG Wodehouse serial. Got the idea that GDB's a fan but might have got that wrong, and Masomnia's got to be a fan if he's posting from the Drones club.
Plus sometime this year, the next bit of Breaking Bad. Gives us all a chance to see how crime would get done if clever people did it.:DThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

At the same time though, possibly, it would depend how much the owner was taking out of it, and whether it was worth taking over as an SBO in the first place.
Without having a detailed look over the books, I can't comment either way.

My new years resolution is to read more!
