Deutsche Bank have XUGS but inversely tracks gilt index not just long dated gilts. I doubt you want to buy in blocks of £100,000 so short futures probably not an option!

Have you got a link on this Chewy?

I need a home for about £400k that will need spending, just hasn't been allocated yet (it's in a Sole Trader name, tax paid, that will be lent to a company in the future)

    Got me thinking...

I've flown from Prestwick, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff, Heathrow, Gatwick and Carlisle where I was doing the flying in one of those "birthday" flying lessons around 20 years ago.

The first 6 are within 1.30-2.20 hrs from me. That's what happens when you don't live near an airport.

I've not been to Newcastle for some years but the airport is small and easy to navigate through.

In general, the smaller the airport the better.

I got worried when you listed Carlisle airport - I assumed there wasn't one! :D

Googled it now and can see it's very close to my friend's home and the funeral service. I couldn't find any flights to any airports in that general area apart from Newcastle and that involved me crossing the whole of England once I'd flown there (admittedly it was probably the narrowest possible bit of England). Well I can see how it would;t have been any use to me as there's no connecting flights to London anyway.

Sometimes near airports are less practical. I used to live Bristol, and in miles it's still not far away, nearer that he's throw. But it takes as long to drive there now, and goes fewer places. Southhampton is about same distance, have never been there, maybe worth trying to remember in the future.

Quite a few locals here have small planes, and some bigger ones, half way between Lydia and me I think but am not sure. What ever happened to a mere helicoptor?

    I would live a helicoptor.

Is anyone following Chris Hadfield on Twitter?

He is one of the Astronauts on the ISS who tweets and takes pictures of various parts of the Earth from the ISS.

There is one just up of the bush fires in Aus.

They orbit the Earth every 90 minutes, so that's 18 sunrises per day.

There have only been sporadic flights from Carlisle over the years. They have done flights to one of the London airports but only for a short spell. It never really took off ;)

It's very small and more for private use.

I'd be reticent to put money into a synthetic ETF right now. They are covered with assets but those assets may well have no relation to the underlying exposure that you are looking for.

You have a counterparty risk here as a result and I'd be looking to avoid the likes of Deutsche and BNP Paribas. If Europe
goes xxxx up then those two will be up to their necks in it.

That is a fair point, and the larger European situation was one I wasn't thinking of to the greater degree.

Methinks it may be staying between Lloyds/RBS/HSBC for the moment then!

Artemis Strategic Assets has a pretty hefty short position on gilts. Gives you some exposure but I guess you have to make up your mind about the other 80%.

If anyone wants a punt on Gilt prices falling, IG will let you short 'long term gilts' (they use the LIFFE Long Gilt future price as a benchmark) at £10/point with a spread of 2 points. IG are pretty good and they also have a good rep in the market. They are the spread betting firm of choice for my trader mates.
