Dh comes home with 'wombled' stuff from bin day often. Sometimes hundreds of pounds worth. There is one place in particular where he is pretty sure the rich kids shout to their dad 'he's coming, quick, put the charity bag out NOW'.

The last time he was at work he went in smart casual wear and came home looking like an ewok, having bought a strangely ugly brown coat in a charity shop for a pound because of the weather, and carrying his stuff in a very nice laundry basket he had wombled.

Skip diving being illegal is a really frustrating and anti green law IMO, though I see the economic reasons for keep ing it so. I also hate that our council will not let tips sell the good stuff. I love other people's junk.

That is such a funny picture michaels! Pimp it, paint it yellow and your car could look like Thunderbird 4!

Might struggle to get the children to get into it though :rotfl: And that is before it has been painted yellow!

I dropped macputer. It's usable but broken. :(. It's got the volume sign stuck over everything in the middle of the screen. :(. And the edge got bent.

    Poor you!

A friend has taken out gadget insurance with Amex. I've not looked into it, but she claims to have every portable device in the house covered for £7.99 a month.

    after the event I know.

Am I the only person to have never thought of taking anything out of a skip?

I answered yes to that question, but I haven't skip dived. However once I passed a house and there was a set of garden furniture in the front garden with a note on saying "free to a good home". I rang the bell to ask if I could take it, but nobody was home. My aunt lived in communal accommodation and I knew that she and her neighbours would appreciate a table and chairs to sit in their garden but the housing trust hadn't provided one. They were thrilled.

Afterwards, I went back and posted a note through the door saying what I'd done and where they had gone and that the new owners were really pleased and promised to look after them. Hopefully the previous owners will have got a buzz from knowing they'd gone to a good home. The last chair fell to bits last year - but they'd done six summers by then.

I dunno - Saturday evening after next and M&S have closed, I don't think it is that bad, if they spend their dosh on their cars it is more constructive than other hobbies. In fact I would love to pimp up my car, lowered, neons, huge speakers in the boot etc - mostly because it would be so incongruous I reckon it would be brilliant :)

I'd do it ... never seen anything vaguely hygienic/whole in one yet though.

Maybe I should go out early on bin days now the mornings are still dark!

Hmmmm... The new year's honours are redacted until midnight. I wonder why tomorrow's FT leader is 'Knight Rider'...
