Factoid of the Day: St Nick (the Devil) is supposedly named after Machiavelli.
To give the guy his due, The Prince is one helluva book. It is also, ime, one of the most stolen from libraries. Which is sort of appropriate. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I love it and it is a very rare book that I'll read twice or more. I think it sits well alongside The Art of War by Sun Tzu and Power by Stephen Lukes. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Not intentionally sorry! Rather that person will know all that they need to in order to push yours! It's an interesting specialist subject.
Glad to hear the hairy kiwi is ok. I have never heard of dog electrolytes or any of the other stuff before, but it sounds very impressive. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Haha, s'ok. It's good really. And no, doesn't translate to life at all.
Dog electrolytes....li,e lucozade. Dog probiotic, like yoghurt. Eating for health is relevant what ever the species and probiotics for dogs with dicky tummies are great to have in stock0 -
Made me reach for my replacement copy of "Books that Changed the World" with chapters from Machiavelli, Hitler, Marx, Malthus, Darwin. Replacement because the original didn't make it through the last house move. I've never owned full copies of all these (well I did have "Origin of Species" but it never made it either).
Why don't the government make classics like these available online for all schoolkids on hard copy/download? Actually I bet they already have and I'm so ignorant I've probably not realised it. I'm not as well-read as I wish I was. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
On the subject of dogs lir, may I ask you a question?
Lurchers are looking the best bet for mum. However almost every description says that the dog cannot be around cats. Mum's previous lurcher wasn't even slightly interested in cats, but the neighbours have them so now she's worried. Is this a breed characteristic that can be trained out? Lazy use of a book by the centre (they all say the same, surely they can't all chase cats)? Or should we look for a different type? Parents don't have cats, but lots nearby. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most but not all lurchers ( and pure sight hounds) can be made safe and protective of their own family cats. Other cats......might be an issue. However, not with all.
Prey drive to movement IS endemic, it's what these dogs have been created for.....but remember, we don't all acheive what we are genetically 'ideal' for. That includes chasing small mammals, We have kept sight hounds all my life with cats and most have been other cat safe too.
I think it's part potentially ease gor the rescues, part probably fear of liability. Keep looking, it sounds like lurcher is what your mum really wants. Also I think but am not certain some of the greyhound rescues are good a cat checking and have lurchers slipping in through the net.
If I get time I will see what I can see for you at some on line tomorrow0 -

Timmy or Beatrix look like they might be ok...it doesn't say they are not, and I note this rescue has others that are cat friendly but reserved, might be one to get on the list for (beatrix is gorgeous IMO)
Cat friendly ones here

Dozens more. Including greyhound gap ( who have lurchers) and while it's not close there is the wet of England greyhound rescue.....and you could all drop in and see me while there;)
Most rescues will coordinate so if the ideal dog is found a lical home checker can approve you. Worth getting home checked first.0
