Ok this system looks quite different to what a lot of us will have but the flexi pipe on the wall, below the tank (second picture) has valves on it and the gauge looks like it is up enough to rule that out.

Lets say any gauge which is a third to a half up from zero should be enough to make it work ok.

There is a gauge next to a valve on the third picture too. That may be worth looking at but I'm not 100% sure on your system layout from the pictures.

Normally the flexi pipe from your house mains water to your CH system is the one used to add (water) pressure to your CH system when required.

There is usually a "problem solving" part at the back of the manual if you have that. If it's nothing straight forward then I would be looking to pressurise the heating engineer to fix it ASAP.

The heating guy has taken the manual. They have asked me NOT to problem solve or fix, so unless it's unreasonably obvious I think I should not.

I gave the pictures to show its not really 'normal'.

The system layout.......well the boiler etc is in one room, then pipes run under the floor across a room into another room where there is a cylinder, with so many pipes coming out of it it looks like tube and metro maps from western europ layered on top of each other.

That it's given so many problems through installation, for plumbers, electricians and the heating guy suggests its far from straight forward.

I guess my main concern as temps drop tonight is pipes freezing now it's cold AND full of water. The heating guy wisely has his work mobile and phone on answerphone so I cannot ask him if he wants be to drain some off or what.

I don't have enough electric heaters to protect the pipe work everywhere. My parent is here tonight so I need that room to be warm, and the dogs need a heater. I have one spare which I guess will go in the kitchen between the two heavily piped zones to try and keep them both ok.

Even just some old blankets covering any pipes that may be in cold conditions.

I hate heating/ hot water problems.

It really has to be zero for the pipes to freeze, is that likely indoors? I would have thought that there would be a few degrees difference between indoors and out if you have walls and windows and doors. An option would be to wrap rags and towels around pipes before they get cold enough to freeze.

Yes, it's likely. Here temps are significantly cooler (judgeing by gardens and plants) even than the villages either side of us. The newly super insulated would be ok if the door and window catches had arrived, but they have not (they arrive on Monday) . So there are little draughts at best, and big ones when a window blows right open!

In the old part we have had frozen loo both winters previously, so we have frozen solid.

Couldn't you have inverted your avatar so we could tell at a glance you'd reached upside-down-land safely?:D

Is that why your umbrella is inverted.

You still at Gen's party? :D

All that's left are kangaroo sausages of questionable quality; I'll leave them in case Chewie arrives hungry.

I'm going to smuggle home a black swan as a companion for my trusty terrier; I'm sure they'll get on.

If I don't manage it, keep an eye out for me on the next episode of "Border Security".:D

Hooray! Are you sitting next to Generali in the pub now? It was such a big gesture to fly over and celebrate the new job with him. :D

Gen is welcome to fly up to Brisbane and then drive to the outer suburbs in order to buy me a beer to celebrate his new job!

I don't think you would have dared to post that if PN was around....and no we haven't forgotten the yachting anecdote either....

Are you feeling any better? It sounds like if you give in and buy the shoes we will all report you to the authorities for endangering her tootsies.

It could have got a POSH ALERT and upset her OCD characteristics with the sharing food with dog bit... but I would have risked it.

The shoot is something else - he pays £600 pa for a half gun (very cheap), he knows he is lucky to have a place and it is a real privilege due to location, the characters amongst the guns and because it is also workmanlike and dare I say it gentlemanly. He was invited originally by someone he met through his job.

My husband downshifted careers 8 years ago, the reward for forgoing a large salary and being a nice guy are that he gets to do stuff that many people would pay seriously good money for.

This week he is a guest speaker in scandanavia. He has a few days in the company of a GB Multi Gold Olympian.

I am just glad he is happy and vicariously enjoy what he does.
