Zag and I are music lovers. Are there any more on this thread?
.
Of course!
Dh and I both had careers in music before him doing what he does now and me doing nothing.
Lemonjelly, good to see you are enjoying the classical foray....how is your list? Want any more suggestions yet?
I cannot remember if I suggested yan garberek 'Officium' before. U0 -

Then there are a lot of total mutts that are a mix of all sorts, but you see the brindle coat and think "ok, that's a bit staffie too". There's not a lot left.
My parents aren't anti-staffie, but they are very muscular dogs and think they would be too much for them, as clearly they have been for the families that have given them up. I think also that if they did have a staffie, they wouldn't want a rescue one, as you don't know if it has lived with a total scroat who wants their dogs as trophies and has roughed them up a bit. It's terribly sad.
The good news is that I did see a lovely wire coated lurcher (our favourite type). The bad news is it was in Cornwall. Booo...
Staffies seem to be being replaced ' on da street' with dogs of malamute and husky type. This terrifies me. While both have great qualities, and the malamutes are stunningly beautiful ( and a healthy wolf like body shape) they NEED the kind of exercise most owners cannot provide. Four hours pulling a sled, fast, should do it, so...upwards of four hours following a fast bile or similar. I know someone who drives them on their farm, which seems great. An hour, or even two, plodding round urban streets.....? Less for most of them? I am worried its a seething, steeping mass of energy which could be an outbreak of dog attacks waiting to happen at worst and, 'at best' some seriously unhappy dogs.0 -
Finally, caught up. Blimey you lot were busy last night.
In terms of music tastes, I am and have been since I was about six years old, predominantly a soul girl. I love Jamiroquai and they are fantastic live, but I also go to see Swing Out Sister about once a year. They fuse a lot of old Jazz fusion into their music - such as Donald Byrd, Ramsey Lewis and Junior Walker - so if you like that sort of thing they are well worth catching.
My favourite songs of the last couple of years are Heaven by Emili Sande, Earthquake by Labirinth and You Got the Love by Florence and the Machine with Dizee Rascal.
Though my guilty pleasure is this, which I play constantly:

I love lounge music and anything by Bacharach and David. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Not a lounge dancer, me. Like a lot of music types except the rubbish ones.
Like indie, but that's a bit broad. And dance. Went to the launch party for Kiss FM back in (god knows 88/89?) and also XFM. Rock's the good Mrs Zag's domain.
Grew up in the 70s when there was a huge turnover of musical styles from prog to glam to disco to reggae ska to punk indie Hate C&W except for C&W/R&B crossover. Mind you they have the best titles of any song genre. Bored of most jazz for reasons that will soon becme all too familiar to Nikkster, I'm afraid.
I like a good tune so rap doesn't do much for me I'm afraid.
Sounds a bit like my music taste only I love jazz and enjoy rap (older stuff though and certainly not the biatchez 'n' hoes misogyny of much C21st music).
Re the C&W:

Are three of the best titles.
If I had to name a favourite song right now it would be this:

Ask me in an hour and it will be something different. Kraftwerk perhaps or Many Rivers to Cross by Jimmy Cliff or something by The Strangers or Teenage Kicks or something else.0 -
I love that song Gen! Those 3 or 4 Stevie Wonder albums released early-mid 70s are among the greatest ever. Though Marvin Gaye's What's Going On will give them a run for their money as the best ever and from the same time. That period from late 60s through mid 70s was a great time for soul music. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? exactly....music is right when it's right for us individually, but also for the time, the place, the mood, even the weather IMO. It should make you want to be part of it.
Music that I love provokes a physical reaction of some sort. I generally dislike live music now( too sore and I like to relax and listen or be able to dance and listen or sing along and listen).
I met dh through music. We had both provided material for someone to use as samples on the same track , so effectively we had played together before we met. Dh listened to the material I had recorded and told the mutual friend he loved me...I think we interpreted some stuff similarly but musically differently enough to be interesting. Dh is an amazing, amazing musician, and never big headed or snobbish....sometimes I might even say I find his taste so in snobbish I query whether he lacks discernment!0 -
In the time it took to snap, upload and copy this, the sun has almost risen but the sky is still just pink and purple.
I love sun rises, even when they are so late everyone can see them and I cannot pretend they are just for me!0 -

Songs In The Key of Life has to be one of the greatest ever albums recorded.

It's amazing that a blind boy with a single mother could achieve such greatness.0 -

Couple that with other factors such as living alone in nurses quarters and the worrying about hurricanes and their impacts on the extended family could be a toxic mix. It is a terrible shame.
Large recruitment campaigns in the Philippines have created a significant minority Philippina community in the city where I work. Migrant workers bring over their families, gain leave to remain and settle long term. It may be different in London. Where staff are alone, they tend to live in shared housing with others from the Philippines as they arrive in cohorts rather than as singletons, then when established bring families.
The export of trained healthcare workers being a strand of the economic policy in the Philippines. The Ministry of Labour actively engages with the Hospital in this city to encourage more recruitment drives.
Despite our climate , NHS terms and conditions (occupational maternity makes the UK a relatively good place to start a family) that new migrants are no longer the vangaurd and an increasingly welcoming culture makes the UK an attractive location relative to other destinations.0 -

Mother in law's mongrel was apparently re-homed because her owner was sent to prison for a long stretch. The dog was very well trained, with impeccable manners, so I'm not sure that scroats are necessarily bad at bringing up dogs.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
