DD1s Beavers are going to fold next year as the leader is 'retiring' and there is no one to take over. :(

Soz - cubs not beavers, doesn't time fly....
    I think....

Oh that is such a shame Michaels, James loved his time at cubs and scouts and although he never experienced Beavers as a small child, he loves his time there now.

It was a little eek at the beginning though when they found out he is atheist but they were assured from their meetings with him that he had come from a Christian background and had the same moral values and he promised he wouldn't push his belief system or ridicule a child's belief system because it didn't meet with his...oh and that he (at the time) was doing A level philosophy!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    Dear Mr. Chewie,

Please find enclosed my CV in application for the post advertised in the Nice People Thread on 29 November.

The nature of my degree course has prepared me for this position. It involved a great deal of independent research, requiring initiative, self-motivation and a wide range of skills. For one course, typing, an understanding of the typing industry was essential. I found this subject very stimulating.

Whenever I'm not on the NP thread, I am a fast and accurate typer and filer, with a keen eye for detail and I should be very grateful for the opportunity to progress to being your personal typer, filer and passport retriever. I have not only the ability to take on the responsibility of this position immediately, but also the enthusiasm and determination to ensure that I make a success of it.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this application and I look forward to hearing from you in the near future, so we can discuss further details like ciggie breaks, gym membership, fruit deliveries, sick day policy and holiday allowance.

    Yours sincerely,

    Wheezy

You are hired. Except I've already hired Sue. Can you do a job share?

My lovverrr has an 8 year old, I find that an annoying age with constant questions and wanting attention but at least I am not out of practice as youngest is emotionally more like a 9 or 10 year old.....something the school are now discovering (and believing) now he is at the start of his GCSE years, he is no where near mature enough to be taking them.

My neighbours 4yr old asks 'but why' to just about everything. Being inquisitive is good at that age, but there's only so far my knowledge goes, especially without having a computer in front of me.

My two are also very intelligent for 11 and 9; they both speak 3 languages fluently (English, Russian and Georgian) and they're both at the top of the class in most subjects. DD1 is also studying French, Spanish and Latin, as we managed to get her into a specialist languages school over the Essex border.

We managed to get my two grants to put them through a Russian school in London for the next 3 years through evening lessons, on condition we pay travel (OH takes her down on her way into work, I pick up and bring her into the office for a few hours, so it's minimal). DD1 is dyslexic, and we've found ways around this. She still struggles with knowing three different alphabets at times, though, although, like the two of us, she is good at foreign languages. DD2 was diagnosed with Aspergers last year; she's so much like me that I actually worry I may have this, too.
You think year 7 is strange, my eldest is in year 14! Talking about James, he is now not only a leader at Beavers (the group before cubs) but he is starting as a trainee youth worker next week at the local youth club. Apparently, he is mature enough for the responsibility but also young enough to have a rapport with the children plus with the additional very handy knowledge of different kinds of special needs.

I've got special needs training (I'm actually trained as a SENCO), and it brings huge advantages with regards to all situations I may come across in the workplace.

A good general rapport with the kids is brilliant in many lines of work, in the same way as I've been like a surrogate father for 10 Junior Eurovision SC's now to children whos parents haven't been there. It's helped me to no end; through the constant contact with the kids afterwards, my contact book is worth so much if you need something doing or are having a quiet week and need something for staff to do, which can lead onto revenues afterwards. The guy that won the first in 2003 is now 20; I'd only just turned 21 with my first time on the UK delegation the same year (!)

The voluntary work will also help him if/when it comes to work. I've got a multitude of awards for voluntary/community work, and it's always helped with credibility when it's been needed later on.

Sorry for the long post

When the village brownies faced the same fate a couple of brownie mums 'rallied round' and took it on. None of them wantd sole responsibility but as a shared commitment it got covered and they kept it going. Eventually new leadership established itself and brownies continues.

Could you or Mrs Michaels contribute to a 'team effort'?

The same happened with my Mum's dog yesterday. Given everything else that's going on it was very bad timing but she had a stroke and kept falling over. It's not the best of times in this part of Herts.

Oh Viva, that is sad.You feel so powerless when you are in a maelstrom of events beyond your control.

Our resilience was tested but having a strong marriage and unconditionally loving our DD when all was fraught saw us through and gave us enough to also be there for others. All I can say is "that nothing feels this bad forever".

Things really aren't good in Herts atm :(

    [NP MODE OFF]

Just had a neighbour text me to say she's been arrested at 8am yesterday, then charged with drink driving just before midnight.

Will I take her to court on the 16th? Sorry, no I won't! I've seen people killed as a result of actions like that.

Also, if it took 16 hours to get below the drink drive limit, she must have known she was drunk this morning, when she got in that car!

I know she's not had the best of luck this year (66 years old, divorced, moved into the flats opposite me as she couldn't afford a house, broken kneecap etc etc etc, but I don't feel that's an excuse for drink driving. If my kids, neighbours kids, anyones kids/pets/etc etc etc had been playing in the road.........?

She's got ratty in this text message, as OH ignored the front door. I'd prefer OH did this, as it was gone midnight, and our children are in there with only her. She's actually stronger than I am (probably lifting boxes with 24l of alcohol in/out of her car), but occasionally it works best to have a man around the house so she felt safer, IYSWIM.

It's certainly a possibility to run the group like this, however be aware that it will bring in a wrath of record keeping, CRB checks, and possibly car insurance issues (if the group is paying and kids are being transported)

I wondered if it was one of those new bots that visit fora and post a few posts and then go spammy everywhere.
