My neighbours 4yr old asks 'but why' to just about everything. Being inquisitive is good at that age, but there's only so far my knowledge goes, especially without having a computer in front of me.

DD1 is dyslexic, and we've found ways around this. She still struggles with knowing three different alphabets at times, though, although, like the two of us, she is good at foreign languages. DD2 was diagnosed with Aspergers last year; she's so much like me that I actually worry I may have this, too.

Sorry for the long post

I sympathise; DS has both challenges. As regards the Aspergers you'll start to see it everywhere (or, it's fairer to say, detect signs of it in everybody if you look hard enough).

His running in circles at a crowded airport when stressed was one of the big LBMs for us.

Sorry to hear about everyone's travails. It kinda makes me feel bad that everything is running so smoothly Chez Generali. Having said that, we've had our fair share of crap over the past few years so perhaps the Generali family are just experiencing mean reversion.

It's so bloody hot. We made the mistake of going to Western Sydney today where it was 40C. It's still over 30C outside and not much cooler in here.

For the cricket loving Nice Peeps, the Amla/Smith partnership was a thing of beauty, albeit helped by some horrible bowling especially by Starc.

Middle son's diagnosis of Aspergers was a bolt from the blue for us, he had been known as ADHD for a few years when they decided that nothing was wrong with him...and then changed their minds again and said he had Aspergers!

Youngest son was pretty definitive though, lost speech at a young age, complete disinterest with the world around him, extremely poor social skills, completely unbending with his routine (actually as is middle son), no eye contact at all (you were lucky if he even realised you were there and if he did, you were even luckier if you was not classed as a non person)...oh and the screaming, constant, never ending screaming when we were out and about, at home, at school...blooming everywhere and at the odd times he wasn't screaming, completely closed down, like the shutters had been pulled.

They did have a few problems with diagnosing youngest though as there were a few features which fitted in with other disorders and not quite so well with classic autism....hence the complex autism label.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Thank god the saffas have finally got their act together- if that Aussie team had become #1 in the test rankings it would have been an embarrassment!

if attempting to make own sweets for presents, does the lack of a sugar thermometer hinder it? I can't find one in town...

It helps a lot IME. Making things like sweets is quite exact. This should do it:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooking-Marvellous-Sugar-Jam-Thermometer/dp/B001E4G86G

otherwise try Lakeland if you have one near by. Or a large Pound shop (Pahnd shop as they're known in Sarf Lonnun).

Otherwise there are ways of telling where the sugar is, e.g. the jam test where you put a blob on a cold saucer and see how it wrinkles.

I always make jam and such like without a thermometer. I will invest in one for making peanut brittle though. made almond fudge indian style (like burfi) but not sure if it's going to work. i am waiting for it to set before doing anything else.

The loft does work though, we've been hoiking stuff up there most of today

I have no standards :( I pay someone else to do it. :o

Same here. I do the bits she misses....sometimes.

Makes mental note never to invite round the NPs with higher standards.

Mind you the garden is tidy, probably gets more attention from the (leaf) hoover than the house!
