Anyway, enough about development taxes, I need to move onto something really important.
DW sent me to Lakeland the other day to buy some cardboard baking cases. These are like baking tin liners, but a bit stiffer, so they don't need a tin to support them. Lakeland no longer stock them. Does anybody have any idea where I can get some, please? (I don't even know the right search term.)
Cardboard cupcake liners or cases is the search. I can only find them wholesale ($80 for 500 lots) but my Google is giving me Aus-centric results for obvious reasons.0 -
Sorry gdb, I only use the cases of paper...and I feel profligate enough when I use them!0

One possible outcome is that house prices will remain the same, but the value of land will drop to reflect the extra cost of development. I don't see why developers should not contribute more to the community.
It's got to go to a vote yet to be fair. I don't disagree re developer contributions, but this could also hit large extensions. I do wonder whether bigger developers would just land bank it, work elsewhere and wait for the scheme to fail. Meanwhile, people go without having new houses built for a couple of years. I am always wary of the Law of Unintended Consequences.
Oh well, I'm watching Dara O'Brien now which is much more interesting in the scheme of things. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I you tax something you get less of it. I wonder if this is a way round the new planning rules, just another way to prevent building.0 -

About half way down were the things Lakeland sold during my time there. If you don't find anything in the meantime, I'll have a look online tomorrow (bit of a pain on phone). In my Lakeland days I would have looked back through the old catalogues and searched the online stock system to see if there were any lurking anywhere0 -

Eldest also has dyslexia, awkward when he was younger and then he got an absolutely amazing English teacher for his GCSE who took the time and effort to show him ways to work around it. He went from a student predicted F/G in all subjects to one who got 10 A-C GCSEs including English and Maths. His English level at the start of year 10 was that of someone in year 5!
Youngest is exceptionally bright but (a very big but), he only shows it when he is very settled and comfortable....and apart from a couple of terms at a specialist school for autistic children, he has never been settled or comfortable, right now, he is very very unsettled and uncomfortable. He has done well though, he didn't go full time at school until halfway through year 6 and he is doing the full programme of GCSEs.
Middle is top set for everything and in the gifted and talented group....not bad for a child labelled unteachable in year 3 ish and perm excluded from school the same year, not returning to normal education until year 6.
It is in how the teachers find ways around things, and something I often used to find when I was teaching GCSE was that E/F predicted students were gaining A/B/a few C's with the right support. You're probably going to tell me I shouldn't have left teaching now
The other important thing is that no child is unteachable, ever. There may be challenges, however these can be worked around.I sympathise; DS has both challenges. As regards the Aspergers you'll start to see it everywhere (or, it's fairer to say, detect signs of it in everybody if you look hard enough).
His running in circles at a crowded airport when stressed was one of the big LBMs for us.
I think what's making me see Aspergers in myself is the way I've been so dedicated to the company, the kids etc. I come across as a hardened sod (and it's usually very good), but underneath, I'm quite soft.
I can't describe what I've seen, although I would describe myself somewhat like Richard Branson, and even Pastures in nature occasionally.

Essentially one of the local councils want to charge a development tax for new buildings of up to £250 per sq m.
If you look at these figures
http://www.homebuilding.co.uk/advice/costs/how-much-project-cost-one
That's about 1/3rd of the total build cost for an average finish project. Seems like madness to me.
I'd really like to hear Doozer's view on this. Hopefully it won't take off because only Russian oligarchs and the landed gentry will be able to afford to build houses around here.
I remember writing a letter to Dacorum some time ago, regarding a homeless chap, and seeing how utterly useless they were.
I couldn't afford to live in that area of Herts now (but I am looking at Rickmansworth), and certainly couldn't afford to live there if the prices went up because of this!

In addition to the above, I've just won the 'Best Adult Songwriter' for this year.
This song goes for all our children, whatever issues there may be, which was my thinking while writing it! All children in this video are between 10 and 15.

Dacorum is indeed a really bad council. Not only did they risk the borough's reserves in a dodgy Icelandic bank account; they knocked down the main concert venue but didn't build a replacement, leaving people without much to do; then when development funding came up to improve new town centres a few years back they didn't realise and were the only one that didn't apply, losing out on a couple of million in funding.
When I lived in Hemel Old Town, they would send their bin men round at 5.30am so I took them to the ombudsman after they said it wasn't true and that they were coming at 7am. I won. They didn't change and carried on waking me up (this was up to three times a week). The ombudsman doubled the award. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Thank goodness I've moved since. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
