No, not another hedge fund. It's working for an investment bank.
It's funny really because the hedgies I worked for had quite a Guardianista investment strategy: short Big Pharma, long little biotechs trying to make amazing cures for cancer, obesity and Alzheimer's. We weren't trying to make a point of course, we were trying to make money; preferably huge sums, but we would have done a lot of good too.vivatifosi wrote: »Excuse my nosiness Gen, but if you do that, do you get to have dual nationality or do you become Australian? How do you feel about it? From what you wrote about London my sense was that you quite like having a foot in both camps.
Nothing to forgive. If I thought there was I'd ignore the question!
I do get to have dual nationality. It complicates things a little in Asia if they find out because they have no such concept which leads to awkward questions being asked by men in cheap suits in small rooms, "So Generali, are you British or Australian......or is it both?"
[strokes white cat]
"Do you expect me to talk?".
"No Generali, I expect you to die".
I have no great feeling of belonging to a particular country or nation, they're just artificial constructs really. I remember crossing the border from France to Italy. There was a great big crossing point (unmanned) at the top of the mountain and everything changed. There weren't really shades of grey, it was black and then white. I thought that was very stupid: surely the Italians and French living on the border would take the best bits from the other country, right? Not a chance.
I miss London because it's a great place: fun, interesting, exciting and full of people I love but if I fell into a coma and people were trying to identify me there's nothing intrinsic about me that says I'm from London.vivatifosi wrote: »And good luck with the interview!
Thanks. I am the right person for the job, no doubt about it. I have precisely the skill set that they want. I'm not close to what they're looking for, I'm exactly what they need.
However, assuming I can convince them of that, I need to get past the other part of the interview: can they want to sit next to me for 9 hours a day? There is very little I can do to influence that except to be myself and hope they like me.0 -

Depends on the intonation.
It can mean 'elephant snot'.0 -

Good luck gen!
If you get it, will you pay for us all to come over to celebrate?;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Errrmmmm, hello all! I haven't been here in a while. I see by part 7 this place is thankfully still going strong - a thread of peace, friendship and support amongst the storm(?) of debate.
Hope you're all well!!?
Howdy there fella! What you been up to?
You make us sound like a bunch of hippies...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Asda has an offer on cans at the moment. I am assuming you would say that a bottle isn't worth it because you wouldn't drink it all but end up throwing half of it away.
So next NP survey: coke/ pepsi/ virgin cola/ value carp????
flavoured coke: lemon/ lime/ cherry???
diet/ caffeine free/ zero/ red????
alt : diet/ max/ blue???
I cannot drink coca cola. Only diet coke. Coca Cola leaves (for me) a vile aftertaste.
I can drink pepsi, diet pepsi, pepsi max.
Don't like any of the cherry varieties. To be honest, don't tend to go for any flavoured varieties.
Prefer Schloer (christmas/birthdays) especially the grape! Usually I'll have an OJ with a little lemonade. However my preferred cold drink is either milk (love it!) or ribena. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

24 Pepsi cans for £5 at Tesco
I like full fat Coke. It actually makes me feel sick. That's addiction for you - it's that first mouthful of ice cold fizz that I crave. After that it turns to flat syrup. I still drink it though I don't always finish a can. And it has to be a can. I won't drink it from a bottle, only a glass one.
Woman at work drinks cans of Coke Zero all day long, they line up along her desk and she seems to have a constant supply. I thought I was bad drinking a can a day!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
