Of course- that's what us seasoned travellers do.
One of DW's students used to do this journey every week of her course. And that wasn't the record for travelling to the course.

Seems a pretty familiar format...
Have heard mention of Herts too, all we need now are some mushrooms...
Edit: That wasn't meant to be offensive, just a play on the titles.lostinrates wrote: »I think silvercar's type of car was in one shot (but wrong colour).
Been up north for family thing and saw DS2 at uni, he seems to have settled in well. Took him out for dinner that seemed appreciated.
I haven't seen the programme yet, looking at my facebook page at least 2 FB friends claim to have been offered the chance to be in the programme and are relieved they declined.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. What do NP think of Jimmy Saville revelations?
I can't help thinking that:
(a) its slightly unfair that this comes to light when he is not around to defend himself
(b) if his activities were so prolific why didn't someone, somewhere say something earlier
(c) if celebrities/ BBC knew why didn't they shun him at the time
(d) some of these girls who are now coming forward may just be wanting their 15 mins of fame/ sell their story/ get some compensation.
(e) if these revelations are proved it obviously taints his reputation, but does it totally negate all the charitable work he did?I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Of those, (b) is the most interesting. I know that some people had suspicions about him, but he was just too useful. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

These three go very much together, along with (c) and(d) some of these girls who are now coming forward may just be wanting their 15 mins of fame/ sell their story/ get some compensation.
It seems strange that the 'truth' comes out when he's not here to defend himself, leaving me very much in the frame of mind that the sole intention was to gain funds from the estate.
This leads me to(e) if these revelations are proved it obviously taints his reputation, but does it totally negate all the charitable work he did?
Surely positive charity work is positive charity work?
Idk what to think on the matter, but my views at the moment are above.

Surely positive charity work is positive charity work?
Yes, but there is an uncomfortable feeling in having money from a "tainted" character. Yes, good work is good work, but you would wonder if some of his motive was to do so much that any aspersions were brushed under the carpet and that some of the good deeds could have been done with the purpose of gaining access to young girls in the confidence that anything that went on would then be disbelieved/ ignored.
Is it the same as animal rights groups refusing donations from large cosmetic companies? Or cancer charities not accepting donations from tobacco companies? Not exactly good examples, but sometimes charities don't want to be tainted by association, or is the size of the donation/ publicity enough that the money is just accepted with thanks.
I'm still unhappy that now he is dead everything comes to light and the size of his dodgy activities just grows and grows and no-one is saying, "why didn't someone say something?"I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. [a] Not really, he was lucky and engineered it and came from a time when these things could go on more easily.
Lots of people did .... but it was hushed up, people wouldn't believe it, you'd just get shot down. Different world.
[c] Institutionalised culture of entitlement and showmanship. Like bankers, but this was the flagship celeb of the 70s in a new world.
[d] Some, but overall the story is consistent - and the historical stories will be consistent. Bound to be 10% riding a wave of fame, but his silent victims will outweigh those; there are hundreds/more that will never speak out even now.
[e] Yes, he did it to get into a position of power and trust, so he could do what he liked to vulnerable people.

It does look like the evidence is overwhelming and a number of the Victims seem to corroborate each other.
(b) if his activities were so prolific why didn't someone, somewhere say something earlier
It was well known in the late 60's to the 80's that young girls were throwing themselves at Celebrities. DJ's, Pop stars etc, I doubt many asked them their age!
(c) if celebrities/ BBC knew why didn't they shun him at the time
Many were at it themselves. bet they're 'trembling in their boots' waiting a visit from the Police.
(d) some of these girls who are now coming forward may just be wanting their 15 mins of fame/ sell their story/ get some compensation.
Quite
(e) if these revelations are proved it obviously taints his reputation, but does it totally negate all the charitable work he did?
I believe even Hitler did some Charity work!0 -

This is not uncommon, from what I understand. Certainly in a situation uncomfortably close to home it came out after the death of the perpetrator, schools, spouse etc covered up the abuse done to the children (obviously many years ago) and it was 'all the children's faults'. They and their children in somecases live with a sense of 'guilt'. When it comes out the perp might not suffer, but some of those who were complicit might, and in places where it might happen again .. Institutions,, processes can be put in place to reduce chances of repeat scenarios.
(b) if his activities were so prolific why didn't someone, somewhere say something earlier
They probably did, and were disbelieved (victims) or told to shut up (institutions). People are not very brave.
(c) if celebrities/ BBC knew why didn't they shun him at the time
Repeat point about people not being brave. Also, people forgive very bad behaviour in friends or people they believe influencial. If ndg were here she would know a reference I was obliquely refering to in BbC production and crime (not this crime) ime protocols changed for protective purposes, nothing to do with this though. ( I have to say although I know I came in contact with some nasty people who were later prosecuted for nastiness they never touched me.)
(d) some of these girls who are now coming forward may just be wanting their 15 mins of fame/ sell their story/ get some compensation.
Very likely indeed. Does not diminish the impact on any real victims
(e) if these revelations are proved it obviously taints his reputation, but does it totally negate all the charitable work he did?
It does nopt negate the impact of charity work, it does help bust the myth that charity giving makes people saints. Much money (all of it) touches something some peoe find dirty at some point. Even if it's only nestle or something. Better that money does somethiong good too.
I am reading through, so have not read any posts after this, so have no idea if my responces will lead to stoning.0 -
My GBP0.02(a) its slightly unfair that this comes to light when he is not around to defend himself
Libel laws being what they are it would be a brave news organisation that published the accusations let alone Radio 5 having a phone-in about it! You can't libel the dead. I do wonder what is the advantage of a big, expensive police investigation when perhaps the money could be better used to fund a !!!!!!-squad to go after the living or cure some people of cancer or something.
(b) if his activities were so prolific why didn't someone, somewhere say something earlier
I don't know but I suspect because he was groping 14y/os rather than having sex with them. It was probably seen as being not very nice rather than disgusting.
(c) if celebrities/ BBC knew why didn't they shun him at the time
See B.
(d) some of these girls who are now coming forward may just be wanting their 15 mins of fame/ sell their story/ get some compensation.
Some probably are. All of them might be. We'll most likely never know.
(e) if these revelations are proved it obviously taints his reputation, but does it totally negate all the charitable work he did?
No. It makes me question his motives but the money he raised has still helped people.0
