Well really enjoyed yesterday's Derren Brown. If you didn't see it do yourself a favour.
Went to Skyfall today. Well worth seeing. It's got DS interested inseeing Dr No and the other old movies. I remeber reading them as yellowed Pan paperbacks back in the early 70s. i'd never have imagined they'd still be such a strong cultural hit today.lostinrates wrote: »Dh saw skyfallthrough the week ( work outing, cool huh?). Here is something to make lemon jelly's eyes roll. Dh brought home two hard back books this week, charity shop purchase in as new condition. ( £2 reduced from £20. First thing I did was remove those pesky fly covers and fling 'em..
We are going through paper backs while i type trying to decide what to get rid of. It's much harder than editing your Christmas card list or deciding who not to be friends with IMO.
Er,,,, by fling them do you mean...........:eek:
Remembers the great BBC bulk eraser scandal carried out and imagines it carried out innocently and peicemeal in a thousand households.
Sorry to remind everybody of a lost era when the BBC were incompetent.

I had some political blurb posted through my door a couple of days back but didn't read until today. Essentially it was sent out at the same time as the whole "is there a Tory !!!!!phile ring" was circulating.
So alongside the Labour flyer on why I should vote for them in the election, I have a copy of an open letter referring to a tory councillor who has been identified as having !!!!!phile images on his computer. The title of the letter is "Can the Public Trust the Tories" and the clear subtext is that it could happen again (won't reproduce in full here) if we vote tory/can we trust tories to be in charge of police. The guy has been sentenced and was guilty of something pretty repugnant, but it is the association I find quite vile.
This is really, really, low and Labour has just managed to lose my vote for about - let's say - forever (well that's how I feel at the moment anyway).
Sometimes the internet's a really underwhelming disappointment.
After readfing this post I thought I'd find a link to Czartoryskis "Education for Power". A mate who was a politics student (who later interviewed his widow) lent me it and it was like a breath of fresh air. In the early 70s he basically proposed the introduction of ombudsmamen into the UK from I think Denmark. Obviously this did actually happen eventuaklly . He also thought they should be given a neutral quality-control role over election publicity materials and should be allowed to put neutral health warnings on anything dodgy.
I googled his name and the book and came up with about 5 hits! in the internet! I just randomly googled "chautauqua jellyfish goon show" and got 10,000.
Then I remembered that viva has access to the world of libraries. Do yourself a favour and get your hands on a copy if you can. It was a joy to read when I first saw it (I don't mean it would make a hit movie or anything but it appealed to my ideas about how a better society might be run).;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

No copies in any libraries I have access to unfortunately. I have however flown Chautauqua Airlines if that counts. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

It's hard to see what's illegal here. Yes it's certainly in very bad taste but it's not illegal to say things that are in bad taste. If there was a specific allegation against an individual like on Newsnight then there would potentially be a libel case waiting but that is a civil not a criminal matter.
You could try the electoral commission who look after these matters but I suspect you'll get nowhere. If you want this to bite Labour in the bum, send it round the newspapers/news outlets and hopefully someone will pick it up as at a national level it's indefensible from what you've told us.0 -
