    Happy Birthday Mike!!!

Ok guys - completely stuck for Grandad this year. He is 83, he has too many clothes, too many books about the war, too many tins of biscuits and sweets....and WAYYY too many socks. So what do you get the man who has everything and needs nothing??

I've just decided I'm definatly doing him a book of "time" vouchers, cos although I see him a lot, 'quality' time is rare these days so he can redeem them off me!

But actual proper presents???? totally lost! I know he WILL need razor blades (i think he must eat them at the rate he uses them at!) but what else??? we usually spend about £50 but if anyone has any great ideas PLEEEEEEASE can you inspire me????

Hey Jamtart, you are totally right - there is a limit to how many socks and jumpers you can need in a year!!

Well done on the time vouchers - I suspect you may have hit on the best pressie of the year. For the last couple of years, I have done a time voucher booklet for our elderly relatives - at 75+, there are limits as to what they need...with no money constraints they buy everything they need physically, so they really appreciate the time vouchers...

Thanks piglet! I think grandad will love them, but also feel like I should buy him something material as well... he is like a big kid and would probably be crest fallen with a voucher book! !! any ideas truly welcome!!!

I'm not being funny but we got gran a pay as you go mobile and she loved it! Did take a while before she kept it switched on all the time and not just when she was phoning someone, but she is now a text addict and loved opening the box (she is a big kid also). I know the majority of elderly folk already have mobiles but if not this idea was certainly well received at our end.

I got food in my belly and a license for my telly
And nothing's going to bring me down

  • Hi Jamtart

don't know if this will be suitable for your Grandad as his circumstances may be different, but my DH Grandad lived in a old folks home for the last couple of years of his life and as he liked to have the TV up loud (like 80 decibels loud!!) we got him some wireless headphones and a battery charger and he thought it was the best thing ever - he could have his TV as loud as he liked and everyone else in the home didn't have to listen to the football/cricket / rugby/racing etc
  • Ok, today is the 1st day for planning xmas. I made my present planner for 2007 and popped in the 4 presents I have already bought. I've thought of one nightmare already ......

When I moved into my new house, my sofa's hadn't arrived so plenty of room for my xmas tree but I'm not sure where I can fit it in this year. Might need some re-organising

I'll be reading through a lot of this stuff in the next few days for ideas. I did some hampers for most people last year so want something different this year.
Love MSE, Las Vegas and chocolate!

Thats a brilliant idea and I am so grateful for all your ideas and don't mean to sound ungrateful when I say the ideas aren't suitable he is just so hard to buy for :rotfl:in this case - he has a Loop system in his hearing aid which allows him to effectively have whatever is on the telly through his hearing aid..... so kind of like wireless earphones!!

    Keep em coming guys!!!

  • JamTart - why dont you make him a nice like family phot album/scrapbook of all the family so he can have you all in one place and include special events in it. You could ask other family members if they have anythign they want to include in it. Also do you have children??? because i find with my parents and grand parents anything my 3 year old makes is very lovingly recieved by them.
    Time to find me again
  • For anyone still looking for boxes, containers or baskets for making up your hampers what about using some of the half price office stationery at WHSmiths, the file type boxes or cd storage boxes make great re-usable gift boxes. My local BHS has lots of lined summer basket bags at 75% off(cheapest are about £3),great for using to put toiletries in as a gift, the natural bags with brown leather straps would look good made up as a chocolate hamper.

That is quite a good one thanks for that! Might try that, and then spend time with him filling in the stories around the pictures after xmas??

No kids..but quite willing to do a hand print painting myself LOL!!
