with regard to tesco vouchers: if, like me, you want to save all your vouchers for christmas, you can actually ask the desk to turn it into a "christmas saver" voucher. It means you don't get any £xx off shopping through the year, but you get one huge voucher at some point before christmas - towards the end of november, i think. You can also actually put cash on the card so that it acts like a savings card, although i haven't done that. (yet, anyway. i might do.) you will still get your quarterly statements and you still get money off vouchers on specific things (tailored to what you buy), just not the big one that relates to the number of points you have on your card.

I say this because its not widely advertised by tesco, and you do have to ask for it. It does however avoid the issue of your vouchers running out before christmas.

Shouldn't you be making them go further by using them on clubcard deals such as magazine subscriptions?

I bought most of my stuff in the January sales. Will get a turkey crown next month as they're cheaper than at xmas (plus sprog left outside freezer door open all night so now have an empty freezer- grrrr.....).
I started being this organised when we were posted abroad due to posting times. Once I got into the habit, it's less stressful and cheaper to do it this way. I also work in retail (as seasonal staff) so avoid all shops in December unless I'm being paid to be there.

Kerthy - thanks for that, I didn't know you could do that. Will be looking to see what else I can for my points and if nothing for me, then I'm saving them for the Christmas shop. Got £12.50 in vouchers up to yet and then the extra points vouchers I'll use just to get the points. Thanks!

  • I was in Tesco today and seen boxes like these below in the link for only 99p(size 11cm x 21cm). Just thought i would let you all know about them. Would make a lovely gift. Have to be careful about how well in advance you make them as the sweeties can go hard if they aren't wrapped.

I thought i would post here first with it being Christmas related, I am going to have a go at making Kethry's Christmas pud , for the recipe she sent me, only problem is i cant find the dish to make it in. I can only find small remkins, and i want a large one. Does anyone know where i can pick one up as cheaply as possible.

oohh, and i just came back from Asda Eastlands, and they have lots and lots of candles reduced, and tea light sets with holders, all reduced,, the best deal i got was one from £8 to £1.20
and the others reduced from £5 to 65 & 85p. Thought i would put these to one side for work mates, with some other bits and bobs.

  • Hi everyone, we're on a REALLY tight budget this year and I'm trying to get organised for Christmas and need your help please!

I'm really struggling at the moment with my parents and in-laws. I was going to do a hamper style present but can't think what to put in it. SIL did a mini hamper style present for them last year (included cheese and bits) and it wasn't very well received. I was quite surprised because they love cheese and wine and if I were to give them anything in a hamper, it would be this!

I was going to get both sets of parents a big basket and just fill it with bits and bobs - including some posh coffee (from starbucks perhaps - the xmas stuff they sell), maybe some cheese (haha), chocolates, some wine, but I don't know what else? Both parents have loads of mugs so i'm trying to avoid those. And I have a small budget of around £15 per basket (so £30 in total). Any ideas please?
