I am dismayed that Tesco Head Office are allowing customers to be abused at Stores through their failure to enforce their policy of allowing a sale to take place where the Store staff have failed to remove from the shelves items which are not intended to be sold.
These items have a price and are on the stores stock for sale just as any other item on the database.

Many stores appear to be unable or unwilling to locate and remove these items from the shelves using Shop Staff and appear to be operating a policy of "let the customers present 1p items at the tills , we can get hold of them easier that way" , the customers will just have to endure any disappointment and embarrassment ".

There have been reports that Head Office have fielded some complaints by issuing £20 gift vouchers , this seems to be a stupid way of minimising any loss. Their are also reports that some stores do operate a sale to Staff via a charity donation. This I applaud, but only if the 1p items have been removed from the selling area prior to the customers arrival , not after the customer has been forced to give up at the till.

I had some 1p items today and got them through the shop as you scan with no "discovery". I visited the luggage area and saw that the 1p Nike Backpacks were all gone .....on the floor was a white SEL label for "Nike Backpac- 1p" the first time I have seen a 1p label printed.(I take it there were some satisfied customers)
There are still 1p items available, (I got about 12 today), but it is wrong that customers have to be circumspect in how and where they pay for them, and it is wrong that Tesco cannot make their Stores behave in a way they say they want them to, "encourage" is too wishy - washy , just ask the upset customers !
  • I must admit I've never found any bargains at this store, but in all honesty I don't normally shop here. Several times I've walked out and gone elsewhere because their prices are higher than Sainsburys and Morrisons. I went to customer services one time because the offer advertised didn't show on my receipt. The assistant treated me like a criminal, (does that sound familiar), and stormed off to check. The offer was out of date but the sign was still there. she did, grudgingly give me the discount but really, are we to blame for the laziness of staff? I do think that the attitude of the staff is a reflection of the management!

And another thing, why go to a store that obviously doesn't value its customers.
  • Got the following for a penny each at the Superstore near the Wicker in Sheffield:

Black and silver glittery 'Happy Birthday' candles, b/c 4432 (loads left on the hanging strips by the party plates)

Postman Pat figure and accessory pack with cow, sheep and pig, b/c 8380 (a few left).
Currently renovating our first home, so every penny counts! :j

No 1p items at my local store, even including an item that has been marked as a 1p item on several websites. :(
  • I tried for the splenda sweet minis sweetener......... they were priced at 75p, only 2 left on the shelf, still paid 75p not 1p :(

All the other items listed on here weren't in our store either :(

  • found gold cone party poppers no price on shelf but as Christmas stock gave it a try came up as 1p for a pack of 10:T
  • Just been to T* and found my first 1p bargains - Woohoo!! Got the Pentel Essentials Collection (141531) that was marked up at £8. Pushed it through the ss till with some other things with the intention of cancelling if it came up at full price, which it didn't! Went back and got another 5 from the shelf and put these through. Did notice the SA was checking my till as I left and there was a tannoy for the manager but, hey ho, Id paid and left! Also tried the Lindor caramels but they came up at full price. This was Stafford Express. Thank you MSE and forum members!!!!
