Ooooh I did Criminology and Psychology. Very interesting! Are you choosing forensic's module etc... That's fantastic about the funding. I was part funded with a grant as I went from country-bumpkin land to London.. make the most of it for sure. But yes hands clear of the CC and you will be better off - although it is hard I know! Well done for pushing yourself forward. I am all for self development.

I did Crim and Psy to start off with but I didn't enjoy the psychology part so switched and I'm much happier now.
Thank you :) I mainly did it because I was on my own with a small child who wasn't any company at all after 7:30pm! I was watching back to back CSI and loved it so thought I'd enjoy this course and needed to get my brain working again too. There are no specialist modules as part of this degree, it's quite general but once the course has finished, I'll look into other options for doing a forensics course (debt will have gone then too so it'll be much easier to achieve)

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Morning all!

Giving up alcohol hasn't bothered us so far though we have substituted it for shloer and still use our wine glasses, mind over matter and all that. I've cut out coffee (except on Sat/Sun mornings when we have proper cafetiere coffee) as I need sugar in coffee and don't like sweetners and I've virtually cut out fizzy pop (apart from Shloer and the odd diet cola if I go out) Not sure I feel better for it all yet though.

NSK you definitely need that holiday for your 30th. I know it may affect your debt free date and having to move won't help but you'll get there, you're clearly very determined! Our holiday for our 40ths has put back my DFD but, I could've been almost debt free by now but you need to celebrate and enjoy life too :D

Bleh. I would do all the quotey stuff but I haven't the energy or brain right now.

Kat thank you for your lovely comment about my Inuit baby. My personal background is part Italian somewhere way back past my grandparents but I look part Chinese on my drivers license (and when sneezing...:rotfl:) she looks just like her daddy when awake :)

Yes you're right, I feel much more in control now that the debt is manageable. I want to do the Jillian michaels 30 day shred to really get me started but I only started enjoying coffee after I had littlun (milk & 2 sugars please ) and drink tea black after training myself for many months not to have milk. I'm allergic to dairy, not just lactose but milk proteins... Do you think that stops me? :rotfl: I love ice cream, banana milkshake... etc. I tried going to sugar free soya milk for a while but I never got the hang of it, & it makes tea taste like bananas, which is not as nice as it sounds. I suffer badly for biscuits, toast with butter... Ironically cheddar cheese doesn't hurt at all unless it is melted. Go figure!! I have a goal, tone up and lose weight or at least stay the same, until March 23rd when I shall be a bridesmaid!

Work starts tomorrow !!! I am fine about going back, I've been in at least once a month since I left in March, and much more regularly this last couple of months. So I am not scared; just apprehensive about being away from the little lady for so long!! I'll be popping in on my lunch break and then after 7pm once she is in bed, but making the most of my time between 5:30 and 7pm reading books, playing peep-bo & helping her to walk ;)

Spiritually, I don't believe in any one 'God' as such. We all have our ideas, most of us are guided by religious books, texts, church etc. I subscribe more to a 'feeling' that there is something out there much bigger than all of us... in the same way I think it would be incredibly arrogant to scoff at the prospect of Aliens. Do we really think we are the only life forms out there? What an ego we have as a race! I really enjoy reading things about religions... am a firm believer in Karma, LOVE the Hopi belief that every living creature has a miniature form of themself sat in their chest & that when we die, this miniature person takes all of our knowledge & wisdom & carries it to the next person... I'd rather believe in all things a bit magical, fairies etc, than shut my mind to the possibility of things. Wouldn't you love it if teddy bears came to life at night a la 'Toy Story'? :D:D:D :rotfl:

Update on life here: Me & the littlun woke with stinking colds yesterday morning. I then proceeded to break my toe on her bouncy chair leg (it's rubber would you believe?) & then literally saw stars and went to bed very promptly after accidentally poking the OH's (VERY TICKLISH) thigh when watching TV & getting a knee to the front teeth from him. Accidental of course... a real 'knee-jerk' reaction

Hope you all have a lovely afternoon. I am batch cooking lunches for work, washing the pots & making dinner.... just as soon as I can get myself out of bed... (electric blankets - the devil's work ;))

Good evening everyone, I finally have my laptop back :j The keys are still sticking (my excuse for dodgy spelling :D) but it's working!! Now I have the arduous task of reinstalling everything and remembering all those pesky passwords that I've changed and can't remember. I've had to change a few and now they're out of sync with my phone. Ah well, my tablet is alright, but not at all suitable for everything I need my laptop for.

I now have a dilemma: I pay £7.99 a month  'Whatever Happens' insurance for this laptop. I negotiated a free trial when I first got it with the intention of cancelling but my friend persuaded me to keep it in case anything goes wrong. She kinda made a good case because, in my days of slashing ALL unnecessary cost, somehow this one survived. I keep meaning to cancel it as it's £84 a year and I kinda figure if all else fails, I could probably pick up a cheap laptop for a few hundred pounds. Also, I get a once a year check up on it. I use my laptop every singe day and each day I'm without it will cost me money in lost opportunities. This check up took 9 days as they were busy. This is no good to me. The only reason I managed to squeeze this one in was because I was going on holiday so was able to do without it. So, my question fellow :money: is this - should I cancel the insurance and take my chances? Or should I keep paying it just in case anything else goes wrong with it? The laptop's just over 3 years old now, if that makes a difference to what my decision should be. Another thing to consider is that I'm absolutely useless with computers!

Ooh, talking of being useless :) I saved my beloved Financial spreadsheet (among other things, I'm not all geek!) to a removable disk thing (see, I don't even know what they're called!) and now I don't know how to move it back. I'd like to keep a copy of it on the disk and have it on my laptop as well. I thought this would be easy to do but, well, I haven't managed it yet.

I had the longest nap ever today! I worked the nightshift last night and climbed into bed about 8 this morning for a nap which I thought would be 3 or 4 hours....and woke up in the dark  It was 4.40pm and I had to get to the Post Office with ebay bits that I promised I would send today. No exercise for me today as I had to jump in the car in my PJs and then sweet talk the Royal Mail guy into hanging on while I pay the postage on my parcels. I don't know if he was amused by me or completely baffled by me, but he was a very nice man and waited so my ebay buyer's daughter will be happy tomorrow!

Interesting twist to your debt busting plan kat. The moving costs and the holiday can't be helped (yes, the holiday IS essential - this is a marathon of a project but you only turn 30 once and it's important to mark it in a way that you feel is suitable. Personally, I think for the stage you are at in life, the trip you have chosen is perfect! You'll have a great time with your notebook and the sun and you'll come back re-inspired and full of new ideas...I can't wait!!). Anyway, your deadlines are deadlines that YOU set. I believe 100% that you'll meet them no matter what is thrown at you in the next 12 months, but if having a well deserved holiday and moving house means that you have to juggle the spreadsheets and shift deadlines then so be it. Don't stress about paying off the bike by March. You (and we :)) know you're not cheating and it'll all be paid off as soon as is humanly possible. Relax, keep up the good work and look forward to it!

Lilt, ouch!!! I broke my toe about 8 years ago and I still remember the pain! As for the partially self-inflicted knee-tooth coming together, is it wrong to laugh? :rotfl: Sorry if it still hurts but the story amused me :)

Oh my goodness, look how long this post is! This is what happens when I don't get out :D
  • Goodevening or happy new day since its past midnight. Ninja that diet sounds too hardcore for me :) Im drinking decaf tea and coffee and my one can of diet cola couple of times a week im more a water and dilute pop person :). It sounds lots of educational rush is around everyone is feeling that new lease of life what can 2013 teach us ? who knows but i will enjoy the ride.

No bun in the oven this month but im not disheartened things will happen when the time is right :)....

Sio as for the laptop i would get rid of the monthly insurance, any problem is fixable ( im lucky my husband is an it intellect) As for the external hardrive you need to use the plain old method of COPY and PASTE this makes sure that the information remains on your external harddrive and of course you can update when you make changes so things are upto date.

Hope everyones had a nice day

    xx

  • Sorry what i meant was any problem is fixable with laptops, and if it outweighs the cost of a new one then its better i can always offer advice hahaha. Stick the £7.99 in your own pocket as a contribution each month to any laptop problems. Technology is so good these days you can dial on remotley and sometimes have your computers fixed well so my oh says :) xx

  • Good Morning to you all... I know I have this "once a day post" thing in the evening but my "posts" for another website have been now curtailed to bi-weekly instead of weekly - adding to monetary issues as it was going to pay entirely for my holiday hotel and now the goalposts have been changed. Ho Hum......so you have me more instead! :rotfl:

Apologies really first - as I was going to update last night. Got home to be told by the landlady that the washing machine will now be fixed on Friday ( 2 cancellations for far and no machine since December 4th ).. I had to had wash a few items and by the time I was set to for today it was bed time and I flopped....(over the mound of un-washed goodies on my floor )...

Lilt your poor toe! I take it you just have to leave it and let it heal itself yes? I have never broken a bone in my body and kinda feel left out! Kinda...... I am happy though that your dairy intake allows cheese...( nom nom nom ) but yes I tried soya milk in tea once or twice and was not impressed. I am a tea lover so it has to be "just right" and soya milk was not cutting it really.. I might get used to no sugar but for now I am leaving it out.... you have March 23rd to aim for, I have a little black dress and Italy to aim for ...hmmmmmm gonna dress me sexy for my holidays!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:......seriously gotta sort out my rear end! ... moving on..
Tell us how you get on at work though! I think you will be super duper fine although my friend ( with the other Inuit baby ) says it nearly makes her cry thinking about leaving him...:(..I hope your walk was okay..
Are you wearing a high viz jacket??. Nothing scares me more than pedestrians who seem to appear out of no where even on a pavement....maybe its just me... my landladys son said he would rather die that wear high vis....Ugh! Anyway hope your teeth haven't fallen out either....:)

Siouxsie Siouxsie Siouxsie.. thank you for your kind words. Yes this holiday is how I like it... culture, museums, sun, reading, shopping, and food.... and I am going to enjoy it come hell or high water! I think I might be in Venice for my Birthday day..ooh I am excited!!!

Your computer..hmmmmmm **rubbing chinny chin chin **... I am no good with them either, as long as they switch on I am okay... I had insurance on mine and it didn't help when thing went wrong. ..so with my current one ( which won't work in my current abode and I don't know why ) and with my net-book I don't bother. The laptop was £350 and the netbook three years later was £250 so there are good ones you can get on the cheap... I am tempted to trade both mine in for one good one that does everything :rotfl:..because I can't watch Dvd's on the netbook or connect to the internet on the laptop:(....

I think cancel it.... whats the worst that can happen. You have anti-virus and a guarantee (or is that out of date)... either way I say cancel I think. I am leaning more towards that than anything.... I like this quote though...
I use my laptop every singe day and each day I'm without it will cost me money in lost opportunities.

Can you explain that. I am trying to justify carrying mine with me at all times but you are a super mystery shopper aren't you? I am intrigued...especially as I am always looking for more ways to earn money outside work....? We need Killer though - she is the computer whizz.....

    KillerPeaty WHERE ARE YOU?...:)

Happy no bun for now but I believe it will happen.. just enjoy the trying! :rotfl:....( I am so single it's frightening )...

UnaidedSpud - Whoop Whoop! ...Well done, starting digging now for more weird things to sell.. I have someone who has bid £15 for something that was £350 10 years ago... a good return? I think not.. fingers crossed for another bidder me thinks... hope you find more bits!! Keep us updated!

So yes a "meet" with GeordieBoy today... I am still half expecting a cancellation. If so I might head to the Transport Museum in Covent Garden and see if I can get in for free.....always worth a try...lol! And might wander the streets like and urchin and get me some Quidco check ins...

    I'll keep you all posted!

    Onwards and Upwards!

  • Ooh Ooh Ooh nearly forgot.... signed my life away to work for this weekend.. Saturday night shift until 7am on Sunday morning... a quick ride home and snooze until I go back in at for 3pm...but it means getting home around midnight and up again on Monday at 5am. This does equate to 15 hours double time on a Sunday and more money in my pot....phew....
