My nan has being saying "don't get me anything" since the mid 80's. A sentiment roundly ignored by every since the mid 80s. I've been buying here a mixture of marks and spencers jumpers and cardigans (she feels the cold) and cuddly toys (the largest of which I took home tied to the pillion seat of a motorcycle....). That and fridge magnets.

On her 90th, we went out with a big meal with all the family (including the complete set of grand children and great grand children), her circle of friends from the local day care centre, and neighbours.
  • How about a charm bracelet. You could pick charms that mean or represent something meaningful to her and your family. Or a lovely dressing gown and pjs/nightdress?

when My Mum was 90 she had the usual flowers & hairdressers vouchers.
We had a buffett at her house but that year my husband had a red MG sports car. So we sat her in the front with a cap on her head to take a picture and he decided to take her for a run around the block. We laughed so much at the surprise on her face but she had rosy cheeks when she came back.
A month ago she was 95 my brothers and sisters took her to the local hotel in the afternoon for tea & scones which was all she can manage now as not in tip top health. but we had a lovely time and as she doesn't go very far now it was just enough.
