It's snowing here
Our car is covered with a fair blanket of snow and I have to go to work tomorrow  I'm hoping it will all go away soon because I really don't like driving in bad weather.

Made some lovely ham shank and split peas in the slow cooker today..going to make a lovely soup tomorrow.I've just put mince, onions and curry powder in my slow cooker to make mulligatawny tomorrow...
mmm those both sound lovely! i caved in and roasted our pumpkin yesterday to make some curried pumpkin soup and it was soooo nice last night, curled up on the sofa dipping seeded batch bread into it... got enough pumpkin left for another slowcooker full of soup with it too :T
it was def quite nippy this morning, when i got up the temp in the house was 16.7C, i didn't wind up putting the heat on after all as i decided to try my luck with a few loads of laundry out on the line outside, after two days they were mostly dry so i just put them on the airer inside to finish off. my daughter is off to her dads for a few days so i'm not going to bother turning the heating on yet (despite lows overnight of -2 to 0C) as once i'm up and about within 30 min or so i don't even notice the coolness. the temp now says 17.6C but i've only just turned my computer on so that'll be over 18C where i normally keep it soon.
i like this heating locally thing, slipper boots, leggings and a fleece shirt, fleece dressing gown and a heavy duty fleece blanket over my lap and not even my hands are getting cold after hours at the computer despite no heat and consistently low temps outside.
actually last night i got too warm, my daughter as well, i think my downstairs neighbour must had her heating on full pelt or something, we both had our dressing gowns and slippers off we were so warm! she's in her late 50's now i think, perhaps she's starting to feel the cold more or something as with outdoor temps like these in previous years the house would have been cold enough for me to put the heat on earlier but this year it just hasn't been.
when we move in late spring i hope i can find a downstairs neighbour that is elderly but with a healthy pension (so i don't feel as guilty about getting their excessive heat) and maybe a bit deaf for my daughters sake, well and theirs too :rotfl:
here's hoping you all stay toasty, enoy the beautiful frosty landscapes and your scrumptious warming soups and stews mmmmm0 -
I had to de-ice my car for the first time today, I couldn't remember where on earth I'd hidden my scraper and de-icer last year and was nearly late for work! I hate having to de-ice my car in the morning, it means I have to be ready 10 minutes early just to get the car ready. First time wearing my scarf and gloves today too, winter is really here!November Grocery Challenge = £83.47/£1500

Took dd to work this morning....45 degree angle hail and sleet!! was planning on getting the garden sorted this weekend but have now chickened out and am sitting in front of a roaring open fire and covered in a blankie!! We had frost, but it can't have been too cold, although it was dry so maybe that helped. The cars were iced up, but the lawn wasn't tinged with white. DD bedroom got down to 13deg though. But both kiddies had fleece onesies over their pjs so were toasty warm.
MIL and FIL brought my kitchen curtains this morning. FIL put the pole up for me and MIL organised the string pulling and hooks, and we had them up in no time. She made me a matching pair from a door curtain, and I have another door curtain, in thermal fabric so they all match. Now the big window and the door is all covered, and it will be much warmer in there on a night.
I think my prep is almost done. I did want to write down some phone numbers and find the normal plug-in telephone in case of a power cut...

I bought a turkey breast roast in M&S on Tuesday to put in the freezer for Christmas. They are £5.99 each, but in the meal deal you get the roast, a bag of potatoes and a bag of green beans or carrots for £5
I'm going to buy a pork roast next week
I've had my Lakeland dryer for ages and wouldn't be without it. It keep the landing just nicely warmed when I have the washing on it!
I too have the Lakeland Dryer coupled with a de-humidifyer and even heavy items dry overnight. I also bought one for my eldest son when he set up home as he has uniform to wash and dry and he thinks his is great too. I also have the lakeland towel warmer and that dries brilliantly too :T
We have just re-stocked the snow box and I have put some bits in for me too. We only had one for OH as he drives miles but now we travel a long way for hospital appointments so there is now a snow box for two. I got stuck in the snow a few years back on a call out (community midwife) and it was a mightily scary experience and I was not really prepared.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -

Same here, I wasn't expecting to go along to an event with OH so quickly changed and put on an evening dress and sandals. Went to the event and came out to very heavy snow! I had no other shoes in the car and only a wool wrap. To get home we had to turn off the motorway and an HGV had turned off and was blocking the road. We did finally get home but I was petrified. Now I keep various things in the car, just in case.
Made a candle today out of the odds and ends of wax I had left over. Done 4 loads of washing (no time during the week to get it done), so some items are out on the line to get the worst off them, I have a few items in the airing cupboard, on the clothes horse, a few raidiators and I've brought out the dri buddy to dry the bed sheets. Very glad I invested in the dri buddy.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. We have got the strangest weather ever...they predicted storms in the night, then a clear patch then worse storms...we are currently between the last two. You've got to love the accurate Greek forecasts! It was torrential rain during the night but I was so tired I just went back to sleep after listening to it for a couple of minutes. They are forecast for the next five days and we may get up to 6 inches of rain on two of the days. Hope my wood still arrives tomorrow! Not that we need it at the moment in this heat, but I am thinking ahead to the real winter months.
It is so hot and muggy outside its unreal, that was not forecast and it feels like the wind is from a hot air dryer. There is so much static my hair is standing on end...literally! No doubt we are going to get more of the same and worse, its forecast to get to gale force 8 winds tonight. Whatever it does I am going to the closing night of a bar (retirement). I have known the couple for 19 years. They have a great group on as well.
Have just hung my washing out as I have no other way to dry it. It is drying more than wetting at the moment.
My OH said we had a strong earth tremor during the night, so much so he thought about shaking me awake and evacuating the house. Had some things fall over onto the floor, cupboard doors open and lost some mortar from the balcony, as did a house four doors away. Strange thing is that it was not mentioned on the earth quake site for Greece. I am going to claim on the buildings insurance which covers us for earthquake and storm. After all, it costs us 650 euros a year for that insurance!!!
Off to get showered and dressed to go to the party. I might put my boots on though...who knows what it will be like on the way home and tottering in high heels in the dark is not a good idea...“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0
