Its the kale talk, I can't stay away :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Are houses made of kale these days?

My house mostly seems to be made of damp, and plaster cracks - one of them is on both sides of an internal lintel, very small still, but they weren't there at the beginning of the year. I'm reading that damp from a roof problem can cause that, and I had 8 tiles replaced near there in April ... I definitely need to watch out this year.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • Hi all,

Well it's felt really cold here all day and last night the thermometer on the outside of the window dropped to 1 degree c by 5am.

After the debate regarding certain weather related nods and winks I took the plunge and signed up for forcasts and have printed the Met Office predictions for December to compare lol. I can't wait to see how wrong the MO is.

I have got the yaktrax out along with the snow shovel (one in the car and one ready in the shed) and am insuring the car is prepared. Have had it winter checked at the garage and we are now ready and waiting. If nowt much happens great, but at least we won't be caught out. Next job sort out the shopping and supplies as I won't be planning on going out much unless I have to later next month.
  • After having properly winter prepped my house I was put in the awful position of landlord selling my my beautiful home😢 . things worked out OK and I have been in new house a month today!

A lovely chum has been over fixing door curtain s for me and sorting radiators so it's now lovely & cosy. The whole of the downstairs is open place & draughty so am hoping it's not in my imagination!

Have found the hot water bottles so tinies & biggies will be warm enough in bed....
  • How frustrating, Brightidea, but well done for sorting the new house! My sister used to live in a tiny Victorian terraced house which had had the 2 downstairs rooms knocked into 1 & the doors to the kitchen & over the stairs removed to make it open plan, & just 2 storage heaters downstairs to heat the whole house. And single glazing, of course... Mum found her loads of lined door curtains that she put up over the doorways, front door & the windows, & it did feel comfortable downstairs. She also had washable rugs on the kitchen floor to take the chill off. The olive oil used to go solid on the shelf in the kitchen though...

Maybe our prepping will be required if temperatures drop and remain so for a period of time.

I can recommend Primark thermals, 3 styles of tops - sleeveless, short sleeve and long sleeve and nice and long so they keep the small of your back nice and warm; leggings too - very good under jeans as they're very fine knit (as are the tops).
In line with most Primark things though, it's worth getting a size larger. I'm a 12 and buy 14-16 and they fit beautifully.

Their fleecy PJs too are so cosy and only around £6 to £8.

Why? At least the Met Office know the limit of long term weather forecasting and say anything past 10 days is almost impossible to predict.

Wrt to Fuddle's comment about Kittie predicting the cold spell we are due next week (via PC)....I though PC was predicting this in late December (20th?)...so he's not exactly right either...
  • Hi all, hope you don't mind me posting as another long time lurker but I just wanted to say counting on from the 17 day warning Kittie gave, I made it roughly the 5th of Dec, will be interesting to see if the prediction comes true. I was pretty sure she said it would be a thaw just before Christmas.
  • Why? Freedom of choice. :D

I get almost all of my dried wholefoods from this next site and have used them for 3 years solid. Their milk is fantastic, I am storing the whole and skimmed milks in lock and locks in the shed and use 4 1/2 flat tbs per pint of water. The skimmed milk does not have the `blue` look that you get in bottled skimmed milk. I actually make 11/2 litres at a time now and tea tastes great

Kittie, how many tbs are there in a Kg do you reckon? I am wondering how many pints of milk I would get out of a Kg of powder.
    Many thanks
