  • The tatbloids are predicting the worst winter for decades:mad:. This winter will therefore be mild and wet.:D

    From wikipedia

"In August 2014 Piers Corbyn confidently predicted that August 2014 would be dominated by southerly winds bringing very warm air across the British Isles resulting in the warmest August for at least 300 years as measured by the CET.[23][24] In the event, August 2014 was dominated by northerly winds resulting in a rather cool month resulting in a CET anomaly of -0.8 [25] with some snow reported on the tops of the Scottish Highlands such as on Ben Nevis."

He also doesn't belief in global warning...do we want to take any notice of what he says?

I see nothing rude at all in this comment Kittie. It was not an attack on you. Your initial reply was far ruder and patronizing.

and since when was the opinion of 'long time posters' more valid than others?
  • I think it's quite obvious that the thread as a whole would like to move on from this argument, and indeed has tried to do so. Posts have been deleted and other people are now talking about other subjects. I think we'd all appreciate it if you could stop trying to provoke further rows about it.

I've started my winter declutter that I started 2 years ago in time for Christmas, carried on starting during 2 springs and 2 summers ago and here we are again! :T

Fruball, good luck with the winter declutter, it's one of those jobs which goes on and on at our house.

I've done a big shop. We are now well stocked in the household cleaning, toiletries and laundry departments.

I'm hoping that I will only need to buy food until after Christmas. Although I will probably pop to HB at some point to top up the toilet roll supply.

I have two sausage casseroles bubbling away for the freezer. I'll add more homemade ready meals to the freezer over the next week or two.

It was nice to see a glimmer of sunshine for a minute or two this afternoon. It rained for hours last night. It feels really gloomy and damp outside. It would be good to have some nice crisp frost and a blue sky - to kill off the bugs, as they say.

Have a warm and cosy evening.

Thank you! I just never seem to finish, Pollys! I start and then get fed up with it and stop so it is always in a cluttered state. It looks worse than when I started but I can see progress and will absolutely get it done this time!

It will get better fruball it will. You have to make a mess to get it cleared. I think the best thing about having a good clear out is the look of joy when you take a lot of stuff to a charity shop.

The biggest mess is just before you finish so are you given up with the finish line in sight?

I have stopped for this evening and no, the finish line is no way near in sight! :rotfl:

I might have a potter this evening and throw a few more bits out. I can definitely see a huge improvement though and we might even be able to eat at the table tomorrow :rotfl:

This is a winter prep for me as I want it all to be lovely for Christmas so I can relax this year instead of stressing about the mess which is what I do every year. I usually start the week before Christmas which is no way long enough to get it all done. I have high hopes though and will plough on!

Other winter preps will follow the great declutter!

I want to insulate my single glazed (with the cling film glazing) back door better both inside and out by using wooden panels at the bottom and make a blind for the bathroom but can do neither until I have space to work :D

I cannot believe how mild it has been so far but know that is likely to change at the drop of a hat (cheers Kittie)

It's totally sad but my mega tesco order arrived bang on 9am this morning and I've spent the last hr sorting, cleaning, thowing away out of date items and restocking my walk in pantry. It is now in total order, everything in date and easy to find. Such immense satisfaction. We are pretty much set for the any bad weather and generally for dried, tinned andnuht food for the next 3 months. I also did a costco visit so bought led lights, loow and kitchen roll so we are covered on thst front too for at least 4 months.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

  • my delivery also arrived this morning, a bumper shop too, more than usual. I made sure to get the christmas trimmings in for the freezer, also frozen roast potatoes and frozen parsnips and some bits of meat, which I have vac packed because they will stay nice longer and anyway they come in puffed up plastic containers ie full of air which is bound to give the meat freezer burn.

I managed to get hold hold of a fresh turkey for next week and it will arrive on thursday, grateful thanks to thanksgiving because no-one is releasing fresh turkeys until christmas week. I am going to section it and de-bone it, then will vac pack and freeze as appropriate for christmas day and the months after, nice sausagemeat will be arriving too and a pack of puff pastry tucked into the freezer plus butter and lard. I am just being cautious because our christmas delivery in 2010 was cancelled due to the driver not making it to the village and no-one was getting in nor going out, was far too dangerous

Mar I made loads of socks last year, everyone I knew got them and me and dh have several pairs. They are the nicest and warmest ever but my throws, well they are going at the ends of two beds. I am hardly making any headway into my yarn stash though

We took quite a bit of stuff to the cs last week, I tend to go to the hospice shop. I finally admitted to myself that we would not be using, or be able to use, the huge black case that was clogging up a cupboard. People must have got some good buys last week as the hospice shop charges reasonable prices and is always full of people. I am grateful for what they do and am glad to donate besides which it isn`t like throwing stuff out
