  • We have jet washed the drive and back garden patio and have arranged to have some work done in our home in December so everything will be done in time for Christmas.

I still need to buy those boots today.

    Hi

My "slippers" are the cheap ugg-type boots you can get in primark for about £6 (or they were last year!). I like them with a proper sole too, we have hard flooring downstairs, and these are nice and cosy. I wouldn't wear them out, they do look a bit naff, but for going to the bins etc they're just fine!

    HTH

Yes, that is exactly the type of thing I've been looking for.:)
Of course, stuff the melting ice caps and two fingers to polar bears :(

Let's get back to the important stuff like new gloves and ugg boots.

I think you are a bit confused about what this thread is about.:rotfl:

Perhaps you'd like to take your debate over to discussion time? This thread is "preparing for winter" and so gloves (however insignificant they are in the grand scheme) are bound to come into it.

    Exactly.
  • You shouldn't let the few influence you kittie, so many of us have read your posts avidly for years and look out for your ;) to up our game in prepping, for ourselves and family members.

I for one will miss your posts and your winks!

Oh princesss sweetie and AM, I will still post but I dare not carry on with the winking face debacle. I was putting my neck on the line as it was and the anti-stuff was upsetting me. I posted too much yesterday and was on mse too much so today have decided to make another throw as the first is so lovely, so back to granny squares, so relaxing and easy to put down and pick up

My other interest besides hobbies, is keeping my husbands pension sipp above water (and growing) and I have 3rd party permission to do all the dealings with that and I think that is why I was online so much yesterday, lol in between selling shares and analysing markets etc. All sorted anyway and safe and sound, just in case but that is another matter, not for mse. See my mind is always active but then again that is why I started the `tough` threads in 2006, so no apologies as I think a fair few have been helped

ok princess, I am doing as requested and am deleting all my controversial posts and any present posts wrt what might be. Have taken all on board and will now make no more future postings or hints with ;) apologies for upsetting anyone

Just to add that some people have sky, others have 4g mobile phones, some go abroad and have holidays in florida and the like. I have none of these but I do like to spend my money on my hobbies, including what I had been posting about. Each to their own, eh and we are all, thankfully, different :)

Kittie, so much of us have benefited from your winks and hints over the many years that some of us have been a part of this board! Don't let the occasional newcomer's comments stop you. If we all ignore those posts, maybe they will find another board to go to and leave us to this one.

That said, welcome to all the nice newbies :hello: who will hopefully benefit also, and pass on their wisdom as we are always open to learning more about winter preps :)

Not much to do here as it has been done in previous years (yay!) but I am (slowly) clearing the clutter from the living room in time for xmas and will have to do the same in the kitchen as we just have too much since we downsized to this little house :( My larder hasn't had a good sort out for 3 years  so I really need to do that sooner rather than later.

Have hardly had the heating on so far this year so must have saved a fair few ££s, but will be putting plenty of cash on to the card (stupid meter) in time for the change of weather... Thanks Kittie ;)

Keep meaning to sprout some seeds! Maybe this weekend :rotfl:

    Welcome to all the newbies
I've been a lurker for years and only started joining in a couple of months ago when a change in circumstances meant that I am now at home all day.
I've loved all the posts, this one and the PSHTF have really helped me to prepare for our current circumstances without our lives going down the pan completely.
Kittie - you do what feels best for you, I've appreciated your help.

A comment I found odd though, implied that degrees earned some years ago were perhaps not useful. I would have thought that the people who got degrees etc. a while ago would be the ones writing and updating our current textbooks. Just a thought.

I've seen those fake Uggboots in Matalan as well, don't know the price.
Will have to source the non-slip paint fr the decking. I think one leg in a cast is enough:rotfl:
Not dim ;) .....just living in soft focus :p

De-lurking to thank everyone who has shared how they prepare for the worst case scenario. I have learned a huge amount from you, and appreciate you taking the time to talk about it.

I am selective about which threads i follow (I guess we all are!) and I have enjoyed the friendliness and chattiness of this one. Long may it continue!

    Thank you one and all!

kittie dear kittie. How many times have we seen you bashed eh? Heck my name is on the tough thread (I wish, wish, wish you would come back to it but I understand it isn't the thread you started) and it so should be your name on there.

For every person who comes on and disagrees in a rude way (because it's not the disagreeing that is the problem but the manner in which it is done, I feel) there will be 10 newbies, like I was, reading in silence and absorbing every hint and tip you auld birds (sorry :p;) ) give.

Please don't let the minority spoil for the majority because so many of us have lost out in the past. Your winks are very much appreciated.

Beginning to make socks on the circular loom tonight. I am a beginner in this so they may well be bed socks.

Hi everyone, well I thought my winter preps were nearly all done but I have come unstuck as this afternoon I have come down with a cold!!!!And I haven't bought the cold stuff yet and don't feel up to going out for anything, so hot lemon and honey it us.

I've followed this thread for a while and only post every so often, but to me it's so helpful and got me though last winter with very little hassle, even if I didn't get to try my new snow boots out!!!! (I hope it's the same this year as well)

  • I just wanted to echo the other supportive posters about Kittie and the helpful tips. I lurk but absorb all the information and I think the bashing that just came was uncalled for. Its a shame. I had stepped up prepping and now have a date I need to get everything done by - thank you Kittie for the heads up.
  • I planned to go to l1dl after work tonight as their ski stuff started today & DS2 needs new base layers (though I must say, his old ones were 2 & 3 years old, & that's a long time for a growing boy!). But I've had so many meetings for work this week, I just came home to have a bath before DS2 comes home from his Dad's, so will have to hope they've got something tomorrow.
