Thank you Kittie and mardatha.
Clothes-wise we are ok. I've bought hats and gloves for no one specific (there are six of us) and put them in the basket in the hallway. I know that if it gets really cold there is a set for everyone.
There is room in the freezer, thankfully it's pay day at the end of the week so I'll make sure I keep the fridge/freezer/cupboards topped up. I usually shop once a week, but by the end of the week we are seriously low on milk, fruit and veg, so I might start to do a mini shop mid week.
We have lots of hot chocolate in for the children, but I'm going to get some horlicks for DH and me.
Happy prepping.

The tv weather view of the jet stream was interesting yesterday. It is down south over the US and is dragging severe cold down. It is above us and is dragging warm air up. A sudden
change will turn the temperature on a sixpence, no time to adapt
Yes I found that interesting too. I most definitely felt like I'd been led into a false sense of security. I must visit PC to see what I can find out on the freebie bitsWill do that this afternoon.
Large Ikea bag is about to be put in the boot of my car along with my wellies, blanket and a bottle water. I will do my car list later too.0 -
I love this time of year and jump right on the bandwagon with prepping, although living in the extreme south west we hardly see much in the way of the white stuff, a couple of frosts and maybe a scraping of the car but thats it....
I miss the white stuff since moving from the midlands and don't mind admitting to watching the live webcams around the world of falling snow...:o My favourite is live Buffalo cam or live NYC just love watching the hustle and bustle of shoppers scurrying round in the falling snow, or peeps relaxing in a restaurant whilst the snow is blanketing the town... Yes I'm a little weird, however, I seem to get all childlike and excited when the white stuff starts coming..:TThriftkitten

The tatbloids are predicting the worst winter for decades:mad:. This winter will therefore be mild and wet.:D
From wikipedia
"In August 2014 Piers Corbyn confidently predicted that August 2014 would be dominated by southerly winds bringing very warm air across the British Isles resulting in the warmest August for at least 300 years as measured by the CET.[23][24] In the event, August 2014 was dominated by northerly winds resulting in a rather cool month resulting in a CET anomaly of -0.8 [25] with some snow reported on the tops of the Scottish Highlands such as on Ben Nevis."
He also doesn't belief in global warning...do we want to take any notice of what he says?0 -

Certainly hope you're right, mild and wet is fine, I haven't seen any long range forecasts but so far so good anyway. Last year wasn't too bad but I still have plenty of snowy photos to remember it by, and of course those few weeks in March the winter before were bad (ran out of chocolate and had to arrange a tractor drop!) but it's only a few weeks max in this country, not like Russia etc - it's a pain but nothing to really vex about. Around here where we can be snowed in for a few weeks, people make sure they're stocked up with animal feed etc, just as a matter of course. Newcomers, especially in their first winter, complain like mad to the council!!
I can't see how any forecaster can get it right, we're dealing with nature after all, so just have to take it as it comes. Don't understand the secrecy though.

I don't want mild and wet thanks. We had our first flood alert of the season published yesterday, and I've just spent another hour and a half in the water clearing out overgrown irises in an attempt to make sure any problems are further downstream...0

I don't want it wet, I don't mind mild though :rotfl: I have 3 more late nights out working before my Christmas break then in the new year I'm out at least 1 night every 2 in 3 weeks. I can cope with cold, I love the snow, I hate the rain as it creeps up my jeans and through whatever I'm wearing. One night last winter DD and I went out wrapped up but in the rain, after an hour we had to come home, have a boiling hot drink and completely change ALL our clothes (yes, even the "unmentionables") due to the wick effect happening and soaking us. We desperately need some waterproof trousers for weather like that, they're on my list of things to buy
Along with a decent waterproof when I've lost more weight!
