Preparing for winter IV

  • Do you think we should/could compile a "power cut prep list"? Specifics if this is looking like a possibility this winter. Us preppers who have things in place over the years should be ok but thinking if people come looking for this specific information given the warnings on the news and now these leaflets being delivered directly to homes.

We can cut & paste the list & add to it as we think of extra items?

Just a thought as this may be a dominant feature of this winters preps.

Do you have a smartphone by any chance ? If you do look for the internet sharing option. As long as you have unlimited data on your phone package, you can use this to get online on your laptop etc

We're up in the hills and there's only one repeater mast Grimbal... when the power goes off so does the mobile phone signal and the only thing that works is the old plug-in phone
  • I'm in Manchester and also received a piece of paper with a number for powercuts.

We are in the SE of London & don't really suffer power cuts but I do have several fully charges portable phone/tablet batteries. We also keep touches in strategic areas around the house as we have had a could of blown fuses in the past & it is handy to just know where a torch is. And a massive stock of various sized batteries & camping lanterns too. We have a camping stove & gas bottle for emergency cooking too just in case & a 10l water but in the hallway cupboard which is full. That's about all we do really. Not much else we need beyond food, water & light.
I don't respond to stupid so that's why I am ignoring you.

Jabba4 - another thought- if your wife has RCN membership you may try to get some assistance from the benevolent fund.

Thanks Doveling, I'll get her to check that out.

Yes speak to CAB, also local council, sometimes they have incentives. Particularly with kids in the house, there should be something available, although you don't say how old they are.

Thanks quidsy. The kids at home are 12, 13 & 15. The one at Uni is 20.

I'll check with the council, many thanks.

These are quite good instead of candles and much safer, but remember to keep them charged;)
