  • Hi, Chirpychick, I always look at Rainy Days list in Prepping for Winter 3 post 4033. It covers everything very well and was much appreciated.
Sorry I don't know how to quote it, not great on computers!:D
Not dim ;) .....just living in soft focus :p
  • We got a card through the post today, one to stick on the fridge. From western power and in big bold letters. A phone number to ring if there is a power cut. Def going to happen then, first time we have had a card like this

A few years ago we did buy a cheapo old fashioned plug in phone to use for such an occasion

We have powercuts so often most of us know the number by heart. And I'm only 10 minutes from the M3 ...
  • I had this card too, does Western power supply all of the electric to the south west & wales then? I don't know where I put it now....oops!

We had a WP one too, doesn't bode well since they've already had a genny running our power for best part of a week, joys of rural living.
  • I wonder if the swindon power station has affected capacity. First time we have had the card. I am doubly checking on candles etc and just bought some more matches and today checked my stocks of instant canned foods. I am in somerset

I got one here in Northampton (probably as close to the middle of the country you can get) so Western Power appear to be delivering this info everywhere!

  • Dug mine out of the recycling & told my mum who hadn't looked through the leaflets of post that arrived today. Bought us both a plug in phone last week. Worried about heating but it'll just be living in bed with hot water bottles & candles to take the edge off the cold. Hopefully it won't be too bad but I'm getting some bad feelings about this winter!

We live in Lincolnshire and also got a magnet (it is now on our fridge).

We live out in the sticks and have a lot of power cuts, but you never get used to them. We also have an old style plug in phone for emergencies.
