Thanks, I will look into it.:)
There is also one called sunflow, but nothing really stacks up to the German firm, that one can provide a mobile to go in the middle of the room or portable, but unlike what you know in say a delonghi, what their machines are are like the miele washers, once you have had one, nothing else does and no boiler costs0 -
If you have any pipework which is likely to get cold, i.e. immediately behind air bricks, condier "self-regulating heat tape" (also referred to as "heating cable") which is tape with a mains plug attached which you wrap around pipes, plug it in, and as it gets colder the tape gets warmer.0

Can I ask where you all buy wool duvets? and if they have wool pillows as well? I want some.
WE bought one last year from Dunelm Mill. It was a king sized one and cost £75 I believe. It is thinner than a traditional duvet, but is warm. Wouldn't be without it now.:)Bring on a homemade 2013!:wave:0 -

I'm moving into a house soon, its taking longer than I thought so some of the work hasn't been completed - Including having central heating installed!!!
There's a coal fire for heat / hot water and an elec shower.
I grew up with a coal fire and can never remember being cold but i'm starting to worry now!
Its 3 beds, the girls have their own rooms. One of these rooms has the chimney so the heat "should" rise into her room right?
I have an oil heater for the little ones room but im going to set it on a timer so it turns off well in time before she wakes up and i'm planning on "blocking" it some how so she cant touch it
I've got an electric blanket for my room
Need to buy hot water bottles, we all have dressing gowns & slippers
Anything else I may need?!
last year was our first year with central heating (solid fuel, so i still have to light it) and i'm 38! my boys have grown up happily without it so don't worry too much,
good thick winter duvets, and plenty of fleece blankets, onsies are great for kids now, we used to all put our duvets in front of fire before bed, cheaper than an electric blanket and if you go to bed warm you tend to stay warmer,
microwave wheat bags are great for little ones as less chance of scalding
also if you have plenty of hot water give the girls a warm bath just before bed
it has it's plus sides, we had a 4 bed bungalow with one woodburner so we had to be sociable, as everyone wanted to be near the fire!0 -
Hi everyone
I've been a busy little bee knitting two pairs of bed socks for OH (his feet get sooooo cold in winter and it tickles him to warm them on me ) and now I am on to making a blanket with my leftover bits of wool.
A lot of last years stuff is still ok so there's not much to do this year.
We go on holiday at the end of next month so we need to take the cover off the gazebo and store it away, and pack away the outside stuff ready for any bad weather before we go away.
I haven't a lot of storage but aim to stock up on cans and make sure there is plenty of electric on the meter in case we get a really cold snap.
I've also found a really simple pattern for a cowl and aim to make them for my sons (they are both adults but never seem able to buy useful clothing like gloves, hats , scarves etc) to go in their Xmas stocking.
It's gone really chilly here over the last week and I am determined not to use the heating til I have to, the blankies are coming out and the winter duvet going on the bed ( you never know if I do this we might get a bit more warm weather, it's Sod's law)
Anyway I better go
Thanks for all the inspiration guys

My wool bed set has arrived, ordered Monday arrived today, can't complain at that.
Its cold here today, we are having stew and dumplings for tea. I've made extra to put in the freezer, to be used on busy cold days.
Our neighbours are prepping too. One is having some roof work done and my immediate neighbour is cutting back in his garden.
Have a lovely evening, I'll be watching great British bake off, I've made lemon drizzle for the occasion.

Blanket progress
Fire testing
That chest of drawers we use as a sideboard was free, left outside someone's house because they were rationalising their stuff, it's solid oak! They gave us a z-bed too. The tall plant cost £1 in a wilko end of season sale. The big plan in this house was to get one room cozy before I go back to work and we think we are there
Fluffy socks have been located, hot water bottles already in action!0 -
Your room looks lovely and cosy.i love the colours you are using for the blanket. It will be lovely and snugly sat in front of your fire. Well done on getting it ready before your return to work.

I am loving the blanket!
Over the past couple of days I have been busy water proofing the garage, with the special water proof fibre paint, expanding foam and bitumen strips you can get.
Bit of a bodge I know, but will do till I can afford to rebuild it and put a proper roof on!0
