I subscribe to this thread daily, and have done for years. Find it so inspirational...keep your tips coming.

One thing I would say is that I suffer from very cold hands and feet and in the cooler months its the difference, with the feet especially, as to whether I nod off to sleep easily. Until that is, one of my dfs bought me a pair of 2.3tog socks. Who knew such a thing existed. They are faberooo. They come in pink and purple. I got some more in B&M early in the year and they were £2.99. I saw the exact same ones in Matalan for £5.99 or £6.99 (can't remember which). They are an ankle sock but come up quite high and could be worn well under wellies. Thought I'd mention incase it will help anyone else.
I got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.
  • Just a quick one for those that are doing elderberry syrup on the quince tree blog there is a recipe for elderberry lollies which would be great for sore throats.

elderberries are just right at the moment, all black on every spray. I only picked the sprays within reach on the allotment and quickly got enough for 3 bottles of syrup, 2/3 of a cup in each one. I have bagged and frozen then in 3 bags. Looks very easy to make

Unbelievable but damsons are dropping off the bushes, so so early. I picked some and am making damson and marrow jam

We only have 1/2 a tonne of stove pellets in and have no room for more as we can store a tonne and that is how they are delivered. I want to start using them as I just don`t feel safe without the full tonne by november. I am so twitchy about the weather this year

    !

goose down insulates well but doesn`t breathe or wick moisture away. I had an expensive goose down duvet, which went to dd. I bought a wool duvet, after recommendations and it is wool that I will always use now. Wool duvet is much more comfortable during the night, no hot and sweaty areas, just a nice even and comfortable temperature

That's them. I could remember the colour of the label but not the writing. Really good value for money but yes, like Shammyshack says, available from discount stores. Not paying full price. No nicer feeling than the cold outside, you being toasty inside and the knowledge that you've paid far less than you need have.

Btw, don't go to Primark as general rule of thumb but was looking for plain t-shirts and noticed that they had an 'offer' on of their microsoft fleeces (those that are like teddy bear fur) from £5 to £3.90. Plains and patterns available.

I was cold last night when I got into bed so I got out my new cellular blanket and it was very warm.:) Thanks to whoever recommended that, I tried to read back but I couldn't find who it was.

I need to go and get the fleecy throws to put on the sofa already I think, cannot believe it's only August. I have the garden door closed which is very unusual. I wonder if that means it will be a cold and snowy winter.

I ordered a big bag of tealights as I like having a few burning as it makes it feel more cosy.

I'm going to make a batch of vegetable and bean soup today and freeze portions.
